'Gay'

Saturday, April 5, 2003 by Jafo | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

gay [Homosexual] /gei/ adj. infml - HOMOSEXUAL

gay /gei/ n. [C] infml

gay [Happy] /gei/ adj. dated (of a person) happy, or (of a place) bright and attractive.

OK....so, if 'gay' is used, along with > as a comment on a wallpaper, etc, it is clearly none of these meanings but is, in fact, the modern childish derogatory colloquial that equates 'gay' [or homosexual] as sub-standard in some way, and is intended as a comment expressing displeasure.

However, what it ACTUALLY IS, is a self-declaration of the commenter's immaturity and lack of communicative vocabulary.
It is also inappropriate, and grounds for Exiling/exclusion from participating on this site.

Yes, Jafo it is immature to use 'it' for comments on work =/ ...'tho today's "lingo" is adopting it unfortunately =/ ...I myself think it's totally 'whak.'

kona: If you have OSX, it comes with an application called Grab. Just use that. You should find it in the Application folder. If you have OS 9, press Shift + Apple key + 4 on your keyboard and your cursor will change into a crosshair.

I'm not gay but my boyfriend is.

HuronJoe couldn't resist putting that old line in to the discussion

Oddly enough when I started reading this thread it was only at 67 replies and now its at 103, whoops 104 counting mine.

Also I agree with #98 by Citizen JamMeister33 "I may be wrong but words change connotations and definitions over the years constantly."

You ppl are so worried about offending the minority (gays) and not at all worried that this kind of talk will offend the ppl who are anti-gay...I dont think this subject should've been brought up at all...

Event: Oh now we should care for the anti-gay people? Waitaminute, I saw two before. One was seeing a shrink about uncertain sexual identity and projecting, the other one waved goodbye when Homo Sapien Sapien took over.

EH: I really don't know how to answer you hehe. Nothing in this thread should be offensive to you. Unless your offended that ppl think its offensive to use the word Gay as derogitory or insult.ie How dare someone say its wrong to put down gays, thats your God Given Right.

Maybe the word is commonly used now as a slang to mean less than good or other such neg conotation but that doesnt make it okay. the "Conotation by Association" is Gay is bad so anyone gay is bad on a subconcious level. Using that argument that its now a typical slang is like trying to justify the use of the N word just because everyone else did it.

Anyway Im going to hide in my closet now, hadnt heard of "AntiGay" before but its such a scary name.

Never said it was Jafs, you started out with a valid point and as usual certain people twisted it around to
suit their own little points they wanted to get out... if this thread continues at least let's get back to the
main point....... 'this is gay' is not acceptable in any way, shape or form as a comment on someone's skin.

"This is gay" is not acceptable in any way, shape or form as a comment on anything but to describe a homesexual or a happy person/event/thing.

If you're trying to say "this sucks", why not, if you just really can't refrain yourself say "This really Hoovers" or would that offend admirers of ex-presidents? How bout "This really Rainbows" or would that offend Muppet lovers? How bout "This really Electroluxes"
