I hate forum editors

How many times have you written something amazing in a forum editor only to have the page crash/disappear/self refresh?
Just happened to me. I must have had a 3 page article I was writing regarding debugging technology just go poof as the forum page refreshed.
GRRR.

That would certainly annoy the heck out of me. Couldn't you just write a big article off-line & then copy & paste when done?

I often start writing something small myself, then it grows to be huge before I realize it, then I accidentally hit ctrl-w or alt-left-arrow and it goes away...

The most convenient way to solve that, imo, is a clipboard-history program like ClipDiary. Saving progress is then as easy as ctrl+a to select-all, and ctrl+c to copy (thereby storing it in the history, from which you can easily recover it in cases like the above).
Android has versions too. (the one I use on there is Clip Stack)

Too many times....it's called 'Wincustomize.com' ....
For a very long time the solution was...if you were going to get all eloquent .... do it in a text proggy....and save it before pasting to the Forums.

yes... when WC went through a period of crashing frequently.... quickly learnt to CtrlA CtrlC as I went along... and if it was a particularly longun'... pop it into Notepad...cause often it would crash after Post Reply and you'd just get Boom & Egads!!!... and a rewrite never seemed to get done as well as the original...

i've seen some forums that autosave periodically
Yes the only non-Stardock Forum I frequent does that.
It also has a built-in uploading tool for inserting images which makes a heck of a lot of sense for a graphics related site in particular.
Would be...should be...essential for Stardock's Forums [all of them].
.....where all my recent graphics work ends up...![]()

Yep...when Stardock's forums were particularly wobbly there were times some of my effusive ebullience ended up as 'Ah, fuckit....
" ...
Especially on white wine nights? Or beer binge nights? I any event, I know the feeling.
I recall typing out this really great joke for one of the joke threads a few years ago, and it was quite a longish one, too, so when it disappeared after I clicked 'Post Reply' I screamed something rather similar that went something like this:
"AAARRGGHHHH!!!!!! FUCKIT, FUCKIT, FUCKIT, FUCKIT.... FUCK IT.... FUCK IIIIITTTT!!!!!!
Nowadays I save posts to the clipboard if there's site issues... just in case. I must say, though, things have been so much better recently

Yes, yes I do. That's something to be improved on. Kind of like how most email clients these days save drafts as you type. That could be really good functionality for the forums.
Of course, then the same problem still happens everywhere else on the internet, youtube, disqus...
