Change WB skin font size

Monday, January 25, 2016 by explor202 | Discussion: WindowBlinds

I've come back to using WB after reinstalling W8.1 on all of my PC's. I want to use the same skin (Polaris) on all of them, but I have an issue with the size of the font used when viewing the contents of a Windows folder (all my folders are set up to view Details). I've played around with increasing the font using the tool within WB, but that only seems to change the size of the font used for menus, titles, etc. Any suggestions on increasing it for folder content?

Have you tried rebooting after you've changed the font size?  The Explorer windows can be a little stubborn.

Yes, I've done tried both restarting just Explorer.exe and the PC. The font for content stays the same regardless. I can see the font increase for the menus, toolbars, etc as soon as I click the Apply Style button, but for whatever reason it won't change the folder content. I reached out to the author of the skin and since he's been away from WB for some time, he suggested I post here.

I don't know of any way to change the Explorer Window font. Not in SKS. Think it's hard coded.

If there is an answer I will jump right on it.

You would have to open the skin in SkinStudio and edit the font sizes. Make sure you have a backup copy of the .wba file first before trying though in case things gets messed up explor202. If you are totally unfamiliar with SkinStudio though, just PM me with your email address and I can work the skin font sizes for you as I have it here. I used to own and run John's web site for him and kept backups of all his great work.

Yes Tom you are correct. Except it changes it in a few other places I believe. Now I remember but I just leave it alone.

Thanks for the offer Tom, I greatly appreciate it. I dug around my Applications folder and found I still have a copy of SkinStudio, but it's V4.5 and at least 10 years old. I guess I can try installing it and see what happens...

Right click on desktop and choose Personalization. In the left hand column click on Display. The bottom half it will say Change Only Text Size. In the drop down box one of them says Icons. This will change the size of text of Details but it will also change the size of all icons. I would suggest clicking the Bold box first to see if that helps. For me I have all the items in the drop down box set to Bold. If you change WB skins you will have to go back and reapply the settings.

Thanks for this tip ALMonty. I played around with a lot of these settings over the weekend, but because it said Icons I never thought it would also apply to the Details view. I changed it on my Slate and it looks pretty good, I'll play around on the PC's later today.
