Dashboard_ Wisbar..how to install?

Tuesday, March 11, 2003 by timagination | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

I have purchased the most recent version of Dashboard and have downloaded several skins that include Wisbar support, however I've not had much luck downloading and installing the Wisbar program itself. The links to the Wisbar sites as listed on the readme's that come with the skins don't seem to reach an easily installable file, most likely I'm doing something wrong. Any help is appreciated, I couldn't find any reference to this in the FAQ.

The fellow who originally wrote the wisbar prog became ill and permitted other to continue his work. Out of these newer versions of wisbar pelmar became the most widely used ver. recently Marc Pelmar made his program Open source... free to recode and redistribute. Unfortunately I have noticed his website is not up. I do not know if this is temporary or temporary. Anyhow I have a version for the ARM proc which should also be compatible with the newer XScale... If you would like to post your email here I will send you the cab file... which you would first copy to your pda then execute it by double tapping in a file explorer.

"temporary or temporary" = "temporary or permanent"

You can go to www.pocketpcfreewares.com and download any of the WisBAr versions under Task Manager, I believe there four or five versions. Pelmar's being the most popular. This all are CAB files and to install you have to copy the CAB to any folder, preferably one you've created in your PDA. Open your PDA explorer and look for the CAB file and just tap the file on your PDA screen and will install seamlessly. The program will run automatically and you just need to tap the hour/date to open the settings menu. Hope this helps.

Good idea Gustavo unfortunately the problem with pocketpcfreewares is that they link to the original author's websites... the pelmar link is dead. should you want pelmar wisbar which is what the themes on wincusto support the most... just post your email here.

Well, if that doesn't work, I do have the file and I'll make it available if you provide an e-mail.

i've also got the Pelmar Arm cab. i seem to rathole everything. The only problem i've had using it on the Xscale processor is a quirk: if i change skins 5 or 6 times in a row with the PDA in the cradle and MS Active Sync active, the wisbar will sometimes lose the OK icon/function and i have to do a soft reboot to get wisbar back.

hmmmm.... maybe your pda is trying to decide which skin you should stop at...
