Everything works fine for me, including old games like Total Annhiliation and Unreal Tournament 2004.

I still have issues on Terry's machine with text corruption and blanking within Edge during scrolling...the favourites from IE are essentially invisible.

Even Win ME was at least readable....until it choked to death on it's own system restore points....

For the rest of us everything is quite normal and relaxed

My world isn't falling apart because I don't use Win 10.  In fact, I'm doing quite well without it.... the sky ain't falling, my PC works as I want/need it to with Win 8.1... and my tinfoil hat keeps me safe from prying eyes and sticky beaks.

So yeah, I feel quite normal and relaxed.

The same could be said of a rattle snake.... but I wouldn't advise playing with one to find out.

As they say, though, each to his/her own.  Plenty of people didn't like Win 8 - 8.1.  I did and will continue to use it until support ends.

Again back to what make sense every time I turn on my computer I can't do anything also, what does that thing do that says start. Logically that must not mean to start doing the computer thing. What your telling me that start means to start using my computer gosh how did you figure that out I wish things weren't so difficult. All these things on the desktop are there for posterity I mean they don't do oh wait when I click on them they work. Let's go click start can you help me I can't figure out how to use the computer I need help since I know clicking on help wont do anything. Seven is idiot proof as far as compatible. By the way no one taught my dad he learned from help.

Now with eight they didn't quit get rid of the start menu they just hid it so no one could find it. So now there was no using the desktop if you had no experience. Now I'm going to regress a little. The reason the cell phones didn't have the desktop wasn't because of lack of superiority of it, it was because the screen was to small. I do appreciate the common sense there. Never once did I look at a cell phone, and wished that the computer did that instead of having a desktop not even for a second. Have the interface changed on cell phones no other than maybe improvements on the same concept do I want them to no they are to small. Now eight tried to do that to the computer where on a 17 1/2" screen you put these huge gawky buttons on a computer because we are very blind right instead of icons. They hid the desktop just incase I tried not to be so blind and used a computer like interface.

When I finally found the desktop it was a lot less user friends. First it was obvious that they didn't want computer users to use it anymore with the lack of a start button. The lack of a start button meant that there was no more just clicking on a list of programs to start; or putting icons on the desktop. At this point it was time to start firing people! Whoever came up with this concept? Now lets get some Pr. on this Microsoft announced that they were consolidating operating systems for the obvious reason to save money. Remember all I got to do is sell this to kids because there are more of them, not to anyone who knows what they are doing which there are fewer of them. To sell to kids for the  most part you tell them what they want. To sell to others you have to be more practical because they know what works, and what doesn't. Is a phone, and a computer the same thing not they aren't. A phone doesn't have a mouse, and keyboard a computer does. Is the screen so small on a computer you can't fit anything? Smart phones, and scroll which is hands down inferior to the mouse. For some reason virtual keyboards don't work. If you want to have only one operating system maybe it's time to stop making phones, and tablets, and leave it up to the experts instead of messing up computers. Also why do you keep changing names. Another problem with eight is that you messed up the task manager why? A program essentially runs something that doesn't mess up your computer. Like turning it off, A process is a program that controls functionality of stuff they should not be together.

Now in ten they brought back the start menu, renamed a lot of things. Programs are called apps. Blurring the difference between apps(mini programs), and programs. It's alright, but pointless to move the user interface to the start menu when they should just get rid of it. There is no purpose for it on the computer. It doesn't bother me not calling the start menu the start menu just it isn't so obvious where to start for the non computer illiterates. Still need to fix the registry problem though.  Windows is flopping with every other operating system, so I probably should just skip 11. Also remember the recommended time to wait to buy new inventions is one year after it comes out.

I have that already. Makes it look better but it still hase the W7/Vista clickfest menus.

What I do is change the folder permissions on the 'Programs' folder. Then I add it to the taskbar - right click the taskbar, select toolbar > new toolbar and browse to the programs folder.

You then have a fly-out menu just like XP's start menu

that is because M$ decided that system restore was taking TOO MUCH disc space and cpu power, so they turned it OFF, and when an update manages to BRICK the computer, then you have to re-install from scratch (or hidden in the system properties, you can turn ON thee system restore and even set how much disc space it will use)

Thing is, it is summer in the land down-under right now, and showering twice a day isn't unheard of, particularly when it's humid and temps get into the high 30s, low 40s C, as they have been of late.  As for the early aging, I'm 63 next May and I'm not too concerned with the appearance of my skin.  Most people are disbelieving when I tell them how old I am.... "but you really look so much younger!"

As for Win 10, extended use over time causes premature aging, tonsilitis, gingivitis, baldness, herpes and warts.

Nice starkers, you can try:

1) chose your  favorite package management systems ( strongly suggest rpm or deb)

3) Text the following DE`s MATE, Cinnamon, XFCE, KDE and also these WM `s pekwm icewm openbox.

4) Try wps office , libreoffice, calligra, gnumeric, abiword as office alternatives.

5) Start skinning in gtk2 + gtk3 or qt/kde5. Without gui but with highlight text editor gedit or kate.

Sounds easy but yeah would take you  at least 2 years. Thats why i do recommend you staying on windows 7 or 8.1. If you have question about linux ask on the existing forums in your native language. Skinning in  gtk is difficult and qt even more ( but in qt you can define everything with nice  color shemes very easily -/ but fine tweaking is easier in gtk based systems).

just to show a custom a gtk theme setup , note much more difficult as in skinstudio.

i just realised something yesterday... emet 5.2 isn't fully compatible with win10 (look.. i didn't read the thing properly before installing it)

noticed it when i was wondering why ie doesn't open (i was checking some ie settings... since things like steam likes using ie settings for some reason... i think.)... ie in win10 crashes apparently if eaf is enabled.

maybe it's also why i can't uninstall asus ai suite (can't be bothered to boot into safe mode to give it another try).. i have emet options toggled to all green.. (forgot which is which.. just means it's a bit less compatible with everything and can cause crashes)

aside from that.. i guess things seems to be ok with win10 so far.. aside from that 1 weird nvidia driver crash +recovery whilst playing swtor.. (haven't bothered played it since..) . which win10 labels as a hardware failure.. (eh? new machine). assassin's creed syndicate (got it "free" with the gfx card) worked fine and i doubt swtor is more demanding gfx wise.. so a driver problem from the looks of it.. maybe emet too

anyway... no serious issue with emet... not like i really use ie. (edge seems to work fine.. not that i use it.). come to think of it. i don't use most of the stuff in win10. just mostly the programs i install. i don't even really use the start menu, let alone the tiles.

ps.. i use local account...  with lots of tracking stuff toggled off (via settings only.. .can't be bothered with registry/group policy) .. as the chinese (cantonese?) saying goes.. what you can't see...  is clean..

I use the start menu a lot. It is usually the best list of programs except under certain conditions. I use the file explorer a lot considering Gc kind of demands it. Not sure what I use more file explorer or control panel. Though I definitely use the task manager more.

I plan to stay with Win 8.1 until support ends, which should give me ample time to learn Ubuntu, Mint, etc, etc.... cos there is no installing 10 on any machine of mine.

I recommend 7 over 8.1 why are you a diehard 8 when it sucks so bad.

I'm a diehard 8 because 2 fours are 8.... and 44 is my lucky number.

I dunno......I got 8.1 and its pretty cool.
