Yeah, so after a very frustrating time looking for a house to rent, with so many knockbacks and disappointments, I've finally found a place that I can call home.
Before I go any further, though, I must say that I am grateful to Steve and his family for their hospitality and patience while I sought somewhere else to live. Without them life would have been so much different over the last 12 months or so. Having said that, I'm as glad as all buggery to be moving into this new place. For some time I've not been able to access much of my stuff, what with it all being packed up n' all, and now I have the big job of unpacking and finding new homes for things in the new place. I can't wait.
Anyway, about the house itself. Firstly, it is low-set, so no major stairs to get in and out of the place.... which with my old arthritic frame is a bonus, just two steps and I'm in/out. It is an older Queensland-style with a nice verandah, three decent sized bedrooms with separate dining area and air-conditioned living/lounge room. And wow, the kitchen is fantastic, with a buit-in pantry and fantabulous stove... sis burner gas top and a large electric oven. The dining area is large also, so I can set up an entertainment unit and TV if I fancy watching something while I eat.
I won't know what to do with myself with all this extra room to myself. One of the spare bedrooms can/will be a guest room... and the other, I'll turn into my mancave with all my playthings... spare TV and PC etc. Part of the verandah is closed in and quite private, so I will use that area as a PC work area to keep all my tools and work benches, etc. The laundry is downstairs underneath the house and is real basic, but it's not like I'll spend much time down there to care much about that. The bathroom and toilet are separate, which I prefer, and there's a roomy, older style garden shed down the back for mowers and outdoor things as well, so it's well equipped and quite comfortable.
Oh yeah, while the living room has reverse cycle air-con for cooling or heating, it has French doors opening onto the front verandah, so if there's a nice breeze blowing, they can be opened to save on cooling costs.
Well that's about it for now, will post some piccies when I can.

Wot d'yer need a shotgun fer? PC might get us to Mars and back, but there are no Martians anymore. So no, we don't need protecting! Besides, Martians have been here for centuries... where do you think lily livered politicians and bankers [with the green tinge to their skin] come from?
Another thing I'll be glad of is sitting in my own lounge suite in front of a decent sized TV... there's not a lot of space in the room I have here so I've been making do with sitting on the bed to watch the telly... a 40" HD unit. Yup, sitting back in front of the 65" after so long will feel like luxury... as will getting into my 'own' bed and using my own stuff again.
Anyway, it's 10.30pm and I should try get some shuteye so I can get an early start in the morning.... niiiiiight.

Nope, Bessie's been retired and put out to pasture somewhere in the US. Last I heard, some redneck was sniffin' 'round and whisperin' sweet nuffins in her ear. I hear she didn't give a bah and kept on grazing.
Nah, I'm upgrading to a newer model... one that's self-inflatable [the lungs ain't wot they used to be] and deploys foam sealant in case of rough play and punctures. More to the point, she'll deploy pepper spray if somebody give you shit about sharing the back seat of a taxi with her, and has a taser for instances of road rage.
Well everything was shifted around there today and it all went well... though I'm totally knackered now. Yup, getting too fechen old for this moving caper, so hopefully it's the last one before the cemetery.

Into my third night and all is well. Unpacking is proceeding nicely and I'm finding homes for things without too much trouble. Must admit, though, I' hurt everywhere after the move itself.... muscles I'd forgotten I had and all that.
Anyway, still have quite a bit to do before piccies, but I will get there.

Shaunna here aka mrs_starkers , no I haven't high jacked marks user name just wanted to let people know that I am using his user name as he had signed in on my laptop while at my place I will or he will add more pics when I take them once he is settled in... those pics I uploaded yesterday came off the web .

Inter-wars Cal-Bung. Probably anything from 60 to 80 years old.
Dating housing stock isn't an exact science as design 'features/details' can be pinched from other eras over time.

And with that open/elevated foundation, it will be easy for Mark to duck out of the way.
Is that typical for the area(flooding?) or has the house been moved there from another location. Those are unusual in my part of the country. Much more typical in Louisiana or Mississippi where high water can be an issue or winters are not so severe. We have crawl spaces or basements around here. Our plumbing would freeze in winter with that foundation.
(Would sure make running new pipes or wiring much, much easier though.)

Looks like concrete stumps...so it's been restumped at some time...they would have been redgum originally...and someone's been slack and not bothered putting on the plinth boards...

I wouldn't part with them either. That much time and effort put into a machine that can probably get us to Mars and back.......where's my shotgun. Lol
