winamp rip of TreeTog's Gemini skins?

Monday, March 3, 2003 by Chris | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

I just noticed this on the winamp site. A skin called "Gemni". The author says he based it on an ICQ skin that he liked. I saw no permission on the webpage or in the readme.txt file. It's rather old too, going back to 2001

The zip file also contains the origianl ICQ skin, which has no readme.txt or permission file that I can see either.

Email sent to Webmaster...

Hi...
Paul Martin here.
Email addy is martinp@smart.net.au and user name is/was 'Jafo'. [Possibly a year or two ago]...someone may remember a featured skin in the online email newsletter which was a rip of Treetog's 'Sputnik' skin [being called 'Spunkit']...a lot of flak was created over that, mostly based at Deviantart.com.

I'm trying to log back in to post another rip report which is a clear copyright violation.
This time, it is 'gemni' [component ID:72057] posted by 'corey stover'.
It even includes the original graphics for treetog's Gemini ICQ skin he refers to [unnamed].

This is not something requiring adjudication. It is clear copyright theft and must be removed immediately.
2 reasons.
Stover's WA skin is using Renato's [treetog] graphics without permission, and he has also included and is therefore distributing without permission treetog's ICQ skin, neither of which include even REFERENCE to the author, let alone Permission.

To let you know my 'qualifications' for making this claim...
I have been a member of the skinning community since '97.
I was an Admin at the original skinz.org [pre eFront]
I am currently an Admin at Wincustomize.com [as is treetog]
I am Admin at treetog and Alexandrie's own site 'Pixtudio' a commercial enterprise [which makes any copyright theft even more of an issue].
I am a Senior member at Deviantart.com.
And a member of all the other online Skinning community websites.
FYI, Wincustomize and Devart together comprise approx 90% of the online Skinning traffic to General collections other than proggy-specific sites such as your own.

Please remove this stolen work and censure it's 'author'.

I await your favourable response.

PS my nick 'should' be intact as I believe I have a WA skin on your site still...
