I remember when Jim dropped his jacket into the outhouse shithole. He was trying to fish it out and I told him, you silly guy, that jacket won't be any good and he said "Yeah, I know, but there's a sandwich in the pocket"

So glad I swallowed that mouthful of tea before I got to the "sandwich in the pocket" bit.... otherwise I'd have been cleaning off my monitor and keyboard, etc.
Yup, I gotta pay that one.
It reminds me of the woman who felt uncomfortable about using the outhouse at a party at my sister's place before she got connected to the mainline back in the 70's.
Apparently she felt iffy and complained about "having to use the outhouse with no lock on the door".
My sister replied: "Lock? Of course there's no lock! Who's gonna steal a bucket of shit?"

Bet in the winter time those outhouses were a thing to be avoided. I'm glad they invented indoor plumbing when I came around.

Well at least it didn't smell as bad in the winter as it did in the summer...so I'm told.

Aw I dunno, they'd get quite 'ripe' during summer here in Oz.... back in the day. I think all Aussie councils have mainline sewerage these days, but not so in the early 70's. My sister moved into a new estate that wasn't connected for the first couple of months, so she had the dreaded thunderbox out the back 'til the sewerage was hooked up.
Fortunately I never had the dreaded thunderbox at any of my abodes, the bloody awful things they were.

So you're told? You wouldn't be that far from RND's place, would ya?

This thread is beginning to stink.......

Yup, blame ALMonty for that! He started it with the porch 'thing'.... and it snowballed from there.
I recall back in the 70's when the old thunderboxes were being replaced with indoor loos, and some bright spark thought of a novel speedway event to entertain while disposing of them. Yeah, they'd stick 'em on wheels and tow them behind stock cars until they were totally demolished... sometimes in figure of 8 races. Fortunately for spectators [and drivers alike], the 'contents' were removed prior to race day.
