Huston, I think we have a problem!!!!!

Friday, February 28, 2003 by adni18 | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

Jafo, I think we ALL have a problem!

I have just been informed that there is a company with the name Delphi-VCL Skin that sales the “Skin Engine” and with their product the give a huge number of skins, which means that the buyers of SkinEngine, can use those skins for having a profit with their business.

Here comes the good part of it!
The skins that they sell are all the works of known authors of WinCustomize, like Alexandrie, treetog, Mike Bryant, Grayhaze, essorant and many others.
There are no names, no credits, nothing, just an ID number of the skin.

Any one can download the skins for free, but the professionals can use them for their applications, sites etc and the have the right for the profit they will get, because the have purchase the Skin Engine!!!!!

I think this is too heavy to accept it.

I hope that our Official Layer Jafo will take care of it.

So, here something to start with Paul.

The following skin ID numbers are my skins:

0330
0294
0394
0379
0392
0177
0178
0034
0138
0377
0378
0060
0383
0353
0165
0249
0051
0203
0147
0075
0067
0030
0107
0055
0092

"They even ripped one of my 2 (yes, count 'em) 2 windowblinds skins."

You've got to look at it more optimistically, Werewolf!

You have a 50% ripping rate for your skins! how many other skins authors can say their skins are ripped /that/ often? (Well, save maybe Adni. )

kthxbye does the usual hiding thing.

Nice work guys, their 'More Skins...' page is down.

It seems there is hope after all

I didn't bother to search for any of mine.
The point of it all is that a rip of one skinner is an affront to us all.
It is each our responsibility to keep a look out for 'problems' and help put a stop to them.
It never pays to be aggressive or uptight, but simply state the reality and wait for reasoned response...

good job Jafo... im glad to see the skinners on top once again I was tempted to send an email from the beginning... but didn't cause I thought mine have a negative effect on yours... im not a diplomat... I probably would have gotten the finger for all of us... so I stayed out of it... but good job guys...

They still seem to be including 34 skins in their downloads

http://www.link-rank.com/download.htm

I suspect stardock may be having a word with them on monday regarding some interesting similarities we noticed when we tried their skin builder.

Are they also going to contact everyone they have sold their library to, and tell them that those skins cannot be used in their applications? Otherwise you may find a number of apps appearing which use the skins without knowing that they are not allowed to without permission.

Also do we know what skins they provide to registered customers?

Most recent communication from me...

Pan Wen

Thankyou for your prompt action.

If you wish to locate and obtain permissions for these works you can always post a request on the Message Board at www.wincustomize.com
and the Skinners involved will be able to respond and/or contact you, etc.

Thankyou once again.
Cheers,
Paul Martin

Master of English.

Sorry but Houston is where I live and I just had to make the correction for all the Houstonians and the wannabe Houstonians of the world.

"Houston, the Eagle has landed" should really be "Pearland, the Eagle has landed" because that is the city NASA is in.

Delicious,
I have saw it, soon after I have post it, but it was too late, unfortunately, we can't correct our missing clicks in this message board and it happens to me very often, because I am very soft with my keyboard

I read it as Houston the first time I read it. Then read it the way it was spelled and thought adni did a great parity.

I was just messing with you Andi. God knows if I didn't spell-check my posts they would be full of typos.

But I thought Huston was a Hollywood actor/actress.
