Microsoft Office 2016 Now Available.................

Great to see Microsoft release Office 2016 today.................Coming 'hot on the heals' of Windows 10.
I'm one of those that found the light themes rather too bright in 2013 but I got used to it..........but honestly, I really preferred the look of 2010. Looks like I'll have some options for a darker theme in 2016 which is great news.

Saw this in the news. Personally I use LibreOffice. Its open source and a freebie plus it does everything MS's office does. Been using it a long time.
Calc and Base are inferior to Excel and Access, but I'm working on eliminating my needs for Access so I can at least buy the standard versions of Office/Office 365. I tried Calligra Gemini on Windows after seeing great reviews, but on Windows, only Presentation and Documents are available.

That may be but since I don't use either one LibreOffice fits my needs. MS's Office 365 is probably one of the best out there. Mine is strictly from a budgetary viewpoint.
I'm strictly speaking for my self 
Libre/Open Office is designed for the 80% that uses the 20% of the features, and it's a great tool at that. Much better to install this to most people than pay for MS Office. But a few, like me, really need Excel.

I know productivity tools (MS Office and Libre/Open Office) are useful to alot if not most computer users. But there is a group of us that have reached a point in life that can say 'Nope, don't have a need for that', and a smile usually comes across our face when we say it.

I subscribe to office, so I got it automatically. I agree the color options are awful.
The new features don't really interest me much.
Starting with 2010,they made the new pivot table the default. I hate it. It's just an over simplified version fore the masses... I'm glad we have the option to switch back to the classic version.
Libre and Open office are free..but under powered compared to Excel. No self respecting Finance guy would lower himself to use such feather weight products...

There is a fair amount of relief/freedom in dumping baggage, it's always good to re-evaluate from time to time. A couple of things I've found myself saying (computer-related and otherwise):
"What was once a hobby has become a burden."
"I had a good use for that 20 years ago but I don't now."
I do however still have a lot of use for Excel or something similar, haven't looked at the free spreadsheets yet. Certainly don't want or need the full-blown Office, much less an annual subscription arrangement.

Not the same thing, but I believe I had a similar feeling when I dumped Java a couple years ago, and Flash more recently.
As with some others, I could easily live with Libre/Open Office for the word processing but for spreadsheets, I'll still pay for Excel. (But certainly won't stay on top of keeping the version current)

I found office 365 for a $40 promo for a year, and I've upgraded to Office 16, which doesn't seem too different from office 2013. While I use Word constantly, I think my favorite Office product is Outlook. It is by far the best email client IMO. That alone is reason for me not to use Libre Office. I use powerpoint, excel and onenote but not as often as the other two.

Using Office 365, got the updates on 3 devices. Laptop, phone, and tablet.
