Hi folks,
I'm getting back into stuff a little at a time and I was wondering. Does anyone still use SMX?

Google Trends is likely one of the best indicators to answer such questions:

Sysmetrix still works to some degree but there is a lot outdated about it that will never receive updates. Last I used it the weather was still working but sysmetrix weather was never great. Only supports 1 processor and all the motherboard options do not work. Email is limited too. Skinning it is easy but having to use a bitmap for the background sucks. It is good software but without updates I won't be using it any longer. I now use xwidget because it offers more options.

I wonder why Xymantix (don't know his name) doesn't update it. Has he abandoned it? It would seem that way. Last update was like three years ago. I really like it but perhaps its time to move on. I'm going to look into xwidget and rainmeter. Both have much more in the way of options and they're skinnable.

His name is Nick Decker and yes he has abandoned it. I actually was the one who got him to do the last update for the weather. I contacted him again offering to pay him to update it but he has lost interest in the program plus he has a lot of other projects on the go.
I have skinned several xwidgets now so if you ever need help let me know. I also put together a beginner guide for skinning it that I can pass on to you. It just gets you going with the basics.

I'd appreciate the beginner's guide JC. I browsed a gallery on DA but that one leaves much to be desired, not much of a selection. As for SMX.......play taps.

Are you kidding me Uvah. There is a huge gallery at deviant art, mind you have to scroll through a lot to weed out the crap but there are some good widgets there.
You might like the actual xwidget site gallery better because it has less of the crappy skins. http://www.kuyuapp.com/xwidget/
PM me your email addy and I will send you the guide.

If I can get the skinning bug back, I plan to try. Wish WC had a gallery for it.

Well with sysmetrix and desktopx going the way of the dodo there should be an alternative. There is a rainmeter gallery but not everyone uses rainmeter and it is harder to skin than xwidget, (well not really but more code involved). I don't know why there could not be a xwidget gallery here. It would only serve to bring more people to the site. Varity is a good thing.

a xwidget gallery here
Can we have one please? SMX and Rainmeter have one and they're not SD products either. I'll give ya a lollipop.
Edit: After you close an image how do you get it back. I click on the icon and it tells me xwidget is running but no image on my screen.

You should have an Xwidget bar running. It hides off screen at the bottom, I believe. It houses all your widgets. Or, I think you can just click the systray icon.

You need to click the icon in the system tray to show the bar. If you just click the xwidget shortcut icon it will tell you xwidget is running.
NOTE: Unless it is a widget you are building. If you had not given it a name in the editor during the skinning process it will show up on the bar as untitled, Just click on that.

By the way if you want to get to the actual xwidget gallery at deviantart do not type xwidget in the search box to get to it. When you use the search you get everything related to xwidget including screenshots and a bunch of other junk. The best and easiest way is to find a widget you like and save it in your favorites. When you open it you will see in the title of the widget the location which looks like this,

Went all over the screen edges and no bar popped up.
Ross you will not get the bar that way. You need to double click the XWidget icon in the tray to get the bottom bar to popup.
