HELP - big problem changing themes of litestep

on another computer I changed my theme in litestep BUT i recieved a bunch of error messages and all i have on my desktop now is the wallpaper from that theme... i can't do anything! can't uninstall or get back to normal... can anyone pleeeeasse help me get my computer back

Did you have a working Litestep theme/shell at one point?
And are you using what are called 'OTS-compliant' themes?

I assume you do not have a Shell switcher/selector like 'ShellON'?

i had 'simplicity' up and working and thought it would be safe to change themes. i tried 'phreaker', which i found on this site. i must have done something wrong. all i have been able to do since then is hit ctr-alt-del,which shows a normal system

OK.
Press CTl Shift and Esc, and get your task manager up.
Go to 'processes' tab and delete/end process of litestep.exe.
Then in the applications tab click new task and get an explorer window open...then browse to c:\litestep\step.rc and open that in notepad.
Will have a line in it like ....
dirTheme "$LitestepDir$themes\phreaker\";
change it to read...
dirTheme "$LitestepDir$themes\simplicity\";
IF THAT IS THE PATH THAT YOUR WORKING THEME WAS IN.
Save and close notepad.
In the explorer window you can now double click on litestep.exe and it'll load the simplicity theme....
The reason your other theme didn't work is probably a simple edit of another step.rc....the prob is caused by there being 2 different theme switchers available...
Press CTl Shift and Esc, and get your task manager up.

micrhawk....I've been fiddling with LiteSTEP since about '97-'98....and am still learning new tricks.
With any NT-based OS it is easier to run a shell switcher so you don't need to get into editing registry settings to get out of LiteSTEP totally and return to Exploder.
It also pays to follow the LiteSTEPper's Creed.....RTFM. Sooner or later you will again come across a similar problem to the one you just had. It's the price we pay for 'messin' with our systems...
