Embedded Keys and Windows 10 (SOLVED)
AARRRGGGGHHHH!!!!!
Wednesday, August 5, 2015 by RedneckDude | Discussion: Windows Discussion
Does anyone have any experience with upgrading a laptop with an embedded key from Win 8.1 to Win 10?
I have tried with "the tool", with an ISO, and with a bootable USB drive. All have failed.
Brand new Dell laptop with Windows 8.1.

Microsoft just took control remotely of my laptop and the upgrade still failed.
It is "being looked into".

Living the dream, eh Jim?
Not laughing at you (you must be royally pissed, and with good reason)...SMH at MS and W10.
Bet I know where you want to embed that key, too. ![]()

I don't have that problem with my HP tablet/laptop so much, but rather that the BIOS won't let me dual boot so's I can keep my 8.1 installation. However, my sister updated her HP laptop without issue, as did my niece, who so happens to have the same model as I do.
It's funny, really! They usually aren't early adopters and leave it to me to test things before trialling them themselves, yet this time they're in boots n' all while I'm still dragging my feet.
While I want to take a look at Win 10 for myself and check out the new 'good' features, etc, I'm still hesitant to do so.... like what if MS can turn the spy features back on remotely and capture me computing/surfing the net in the nude?

They'd only do that once.....
...and run away screaming in horror....
And you'd know because?
I sincerely hope your 'admin tools' don't have the ability use webcams in reverse... though in my case, the shock would be yours.

yea it took me calling samsung [i have a 840 evo drive ] to get the upgrade to work myself the main problem is the unnamed partition [system reserve ] being to small there are few threads on the windows forums on how to make the partition bigger ..my guy used a different trick he named the partition -y- and did a command line prompt sorry i don what it was but after that took 2 trys and upgrade worked and when i was done i unamed the drive partition call hard drive manufacture and talk to a techie there you may get lucky like i did..hope this helps

I finally got it done. Apparently, the upgrade(?) to Windows 10 was being blocked by something I had installed.
I factory reset the laptop, and was offered Windows 10 Upgrade by windows updates on the first or second reboot.
I didn't even have to open windows updates, it opened on it's own and offered the upgrade.
All went well, and Windows 10 is on my laptop.

By the way, Microsoft techs failed twice in trying to upgrade my laptop by remotely controlling it. I had to figure it out for myself.
Dunno why I tried so hard, I guess I just don't like failing.
So far, I like 8.1 better.

Thanks, Doc! Funny thing is, Windows 10 upgraded easily on my self built machines.
Go figger.

Might it be that the home builds leave the factory builds wanting?
Wanting ain't the word! A good home-build with carefully selected components will run rings around factory builds I'd never go with an OEM machine again, not after several home builds that have by far have surpassed every OEM machine I've ever used/worked on.

I upgraded last weekend.
Just clicked that upgrade now button and all went ok.
My main rig was upgraded via ISO which was also ok.
What went not so smoothly is/was that i transfered over 280GB in 3 Days while i havent DL/UL anything!
My pc runs 24/7, i know how to turn it off and i know how to disable the upload, but that is just wrong, its wrong to the max and >Microsoft knows that.
Im lucky that i have unlimited DL/UL if not i would write MS a Invoice.
Well MS some poeple actually check NI settings.
i hate the titlebars and the color option in windows10 it just looks likle dogshit
it runs as fast as windows8.x but i see no significant performance improvements yet.
+ i hate the fn startup delay that they implemented like they did in windows8, there should be a program to detect your hardware and then decied if something like that is needed.
It surely isnt needed on my end

Wrong isn't strong enough language for such a low thieving act. For many here in Australia, that's their monthly quota and then some.

sadly it depends on upgrade problem or error when you try !!! Took me a few phone calls and new key from Microsoft to do it myself my custom box needed a clean install from 8.1 since it was a few years old and getting messy and getting errors and when I did a clean install the key I was sent when I bought it to my email did not even work lol. but after one phone call and hour or 2 on the phone getting manager clearance I was given a fresh retail key and was able to upgrade so best bet is to hunker down and get on the phone with them . Best time I found was around 8 am EST 9-10 at the latest hope that helps
