Skinning Competition missed...

Whatever happened to Wincustomize's yearly skinning competition?

Would be nice to see some of the master skinners and regular skinners go head to head and create some top notch stuff to see who is the voted the best.  Having everyone compete on a level playing field and working to improve the product base would be awesome and create some publicity.  To see how the cookie cutter designers fair against some or the more original artists.  These should be free so as many users as possible can test the usability and fairly vote.

Who really is the master skinner and deserves the title?

No interest in such these days? Would think all these master skinners running around would want to test their craft.

I'm thinking that with the release of Windows 10 most of the skinners would be waiting for compatible upgrades to Stardock software and to have some time to see what has changed, as far as skinning the OS goes.

Just a suggestion but a Skinning Competition would probably be better received towards the end of 2015.

GUI Champs wasn't yearly, not sure if that's the one you are talking about or not.

Any type of contest, even simple fun ones in the community take a lot of time and work to get together and the last few community ones we put together didn't really get a lot of responses.

If smaller contests are something people would like, I'm all ears.

It might have been GUI champs.  It sure brought the best from the designers out.  I guess trying to coax the best out of the elite master skinners might be a challenge.  Personally, the title of True Master should only be given out to one:  the winner of the competition.  And held by only one at a time

I agree, wait for the products to be upgraded.  Then let them have at it.

Perhaps once a quarter, feature one of Stardock's popular products with a design competition.  Once it's set up for one product, switching to a different product would be fairly easy.  Featuring that one product might also increase the user base for it as it gets attention and new users/skinners of that program might take hold.  I don't know what the more popular programs are, but i could think of CursorFX,  Iconpackager, Deskcapes, Windowblinds?

Is this some kind of pathetic attempt at reverse psychology?

They are all 'true' Masters as they have attained that level....Everyone will have a different idea as to who is their favourite Master skinner... it's entirely a matter of individual taste... how do you compare a wild sci fi / fantasy design that looks spiffy but not practical to use for more than five minutes against a more conservative looking blind that will be highly user friendly and remain a keeper for months/years....like trying to compare apples to oranges... different horses for different courses... just enjoy the lovely variety of skins being presented by Masters at the moment...

Its the very diversity (diversity being the operative word) that makes Windowblinds and others so unique. You can mix and match to create just about any kind of desktop.
