Need help with a Riddle!

Three guys are stranded on the road and decide to head to a hotel. The clerk tells them its $30 dollars for a room, so each guy antes up $10 dollars and they go to their room.
The clerk goes 'Oh, I've made a mistake, it was only $25 dollars' and gives the maid the extra $5 dollars to give back to the guys.
The maid thinks...well $5 dollars cant be split 3 ways so she takes $2 dollars and gives each guy $1 dollar.
So... now each guy paid $9 dollars and the maid has $2 dollars. That only adds up to $29.
Where did the extra $1 dollar go?
This has me stumped, I really do not know the answer.

Mr_Ph00ey2u has each one of those mystery dollars from those types of riddles secretly funneled into his offshore bank account.

30-5=25
25/3=8.33 1/3
8.33 1/3+1=9.33 1/3
9.33 1/3x3=28
Each paid $9.33 1/3 because the maid has $2

After a long argument with the person who told me this, I finally got him to cave in. The way he explained the answer is this...
The guys paid $27 in total...
and the maid KEPT $2
$27 - the $2 the maid KEPT is $25 which is how much the room cost to begin with!!
