Pricing
Tuesday, July 21, 2015 by Zboness | Discussion: Skinning
I don't normally follow or post here so this will most likely be an "orphan post".
I just want to point out that, inho, windowblind skinners are pricing themselves out of the market!! I just bought a smart watch and I'm looking at buying new watch faces: at .99cents, I don't mind buying 10-15 of them. There is NO WAY in he__ that I, or anybody I know, will pay $10 or even $5 for a skin!!! Yes, I understand that they take a lot of work, but do you want to sell 10 skins at $10ea or 10,000 skins at .99cents each? People making android and apple apps are getting rich and they are NOT using your pricing model; get a grip!! Please!!!

Speaking as a person who sells his work on this site, I would tell you what I think of your post, but I am not a person that uses foul language! Do you know how much work goes into designing a Master Skin? Until you do, please keep you mouth shut.
The average price for a Master skin is around $4.95 to $5.95, there are some at $3.95 and up to $9.95 too that contain extras. There is a LOT of difference between buying something that is mass produced by robots on a conveyor belt for the most part, and designing a Master Skin spending many hours and hours on it.
This has been brought up many times on this site, and what you don't realize is that about 35% of the sales price goes to Stardock, so we don't make that much. There is also a minimum price set on the site that we must be at or above.
I think I speak for all Master Skinners. Man I feel like SCREAMING!
I hate dealing with people like you, GET LOST!
Please apologize for posting this crap too!
Better yet, can a moderator please delete this thread!

The solution is quite simple. If you don't wanna pay that price for a theme/skin... the don't, your choice but don't piss and moan about it. Some of the higher priced themes contain skins for multiple programs and while i wish i could just buy the WB theme sometimes that's not how the skinner sells their work, That's called freedom of choice and wars have been fought about it (pick up a history book sometime). But to come here and act like a petulant kid crying over the cost of particulars themes is baffling. Yes you can buy "watch faces" for your smart watch for 99 cents but i guarantee you the "work" that goes into the "face" is 10 times less than what goes into a complete theme. So to echo Lightstar...... Go away ![]()

Hi,
well nearly all commercial skins here are worth its price. And the problem is not related to stardock at all.
I get 5 dollars for full 3 years of development of a theme on another sites, and for another i spent 5 minutes and got 45 USD.
Why? Cause people pay the amount they want to pay or don`t buy. You Zboness can decide on your own if you do buy or don`t buy it.
Well, people like me (neither masters and laso not n00bs) need at least two weeks with much freetime to get a free skin working.
Now imagine how much of a lifetime spends a wincustomize master on its skins.
Its indeed harder than painting abstract paintings with oil ( tried myself) . But Jafo Picasso was a great genius and artist too please don`t forget that.

And your 'smart watch' is affordable because of third world labour exploitation for corporate greed.
ALL artwork can be seemingly highly priced...and in reality there is MORE work in a Windowblinds skin than Picasso did in any painting of his. Pure man hours.
In the commercial world products are priced to suit THEIR market, not arbitrary alternatives...
