Poll: How many wb skins have you got on your hard drive?
Wednesday, January 29, 2003 by LoidiBoid | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk
Is there perhaps a theoretical maximum number one can store in the WindowBlinds folder? (ie without affecting performance)
And, just for interest, how many wb skins have you downloaded (and retained) on your hard drive?

On my notebook - I currently have 4. Yup - just 4 skins. The 3 that shipped with 3.9 and Vox.
Well, 5 if you count the one I've been telling myself to work on.

I had about 130 on my machine before I reinstalled Windows a month ago. Now I have around 25. I don't think the number of skins installed can slow down WindowBlinds, but it may make Display Properties open a little slower, since it has to build the list of skins to show on the Appearance tab.

BTW, greetings from "Down-Under" (Sydney, Australia) to all our U.S. friends and allies. Let's hope that our two countries get through the next few months safely. (A non-political wish)

I routinely winnow down the number on my machine. I like to change up the skin at least once a day or more. I will remove the ones that I haven't used for some time unless I know I will use it again.
I am anal-rentive about the space used on my hard drive. I hate to see less the 1GB free. But as to the original question, can the WB folder get to full and affect performance? I think MikeB hit it on the head. The more you have the longer it takes for the Properties window, and Appearence tab to display.
Plus it is my anal-retentive belief that less space on the hard drive degrades performance. But that part is also probably psycho-logical.
I hope that I haven't confused or put anyone to sleep.

I'm running about 6 differnt blinds on assorted apps, have about 40 to choose from if I decide on a change and (red face!) have almost every wb skin I've ever downloaded over the past few years on CD ...... guess you could say I'm a back up freak or a hoarder!
Maybe both, it's genetic!

But now we've uncovered a new phenomenon: "Download Red-face Syndrome"!! Several of you have shown "embarrassment" at the quantity of skins you've downloaded. Strange, isn't it? After all the entire point is to either upload or download good lookin' skins! It's not as if it's "naughty" or anything.
....er, is it????

I have over 400 gigs of disk space in this system alone sooooo

no red face either

I actually only use four skins for ODNet products...
Then Hoverdesk, WinStep and Aston all of which I have also bought...
personally the two I stick with the most is VGreen, ONX and then Colony or
Coperdesk II, if I have anything loaded at all.
VGreen has been ported to ported to HD, WS and looking for it in Aston
