Upgrade to XP?

I have Windows 2000 Pro. Should I upgrade to Windows XP Pro? I have had some people tell me no it's not worth it, then some tell me that it's a lot better.
I'm confused
. I really like XP but I don't want a lot of problems either. Any suggestions?

It's either yes, or no. Right.
I run XP, and I love XP. BUT - the only reason I run XP is for the visual differences - and the small improvements to explorer. Oh, and it runs older 9x software tons better than 2K
In my experience though, 2K's faster, more stable and has a smaller footprint - HD space and resource wise. It's just not as pretty.

I say no.
Performancewise, they are the same, and with goodies from Object Desktop, you can make your Win2k look just like XP.
Keep your money and upgrade to the next version of Windows. It's waste to upgrade now and upgrade later again.

I had Windows 2k and upgraded. It was the second best thing I ever didfor my macine. (ODNT was the best of course).

It's funny - when I initially bought XP, I bought it for one reason, and one reason alone:
Icons with transparencies.
Yup. That was my sole reason for purchasing it - though I gotta admit, I love the new start menu too.

Strangely, with all my feindish messing with alternate shells, I found it was ever so easy to crash 2K.....at least once or twice a day....until I tried new, improved XP, with blue beads of bleach...now my laundry is so much whiter and I have to try really hard to crash once a week....

I too was using Windows 2000 Pro, but decided to upgrade for the visual effects. It was a tough decision because Win2k is a great operating system (probably the best) and I had heard nothing but bad things about Win XP. I gave it a shot, knowing I could re-install Windows 2000 if I didn't like XP. All I can say is 3 months later, I am still using XP and I love it!! I would not go back to Win 2000. The only thing I noticed was that WinXP takes a bit more memory to run. I am only running at 192 MB of SDRAM but do a lot of gaming that requires a lot of memory. These games ran a little better on Win 2000 than they do on Win XP, but all I have to do is add more memory. So, to cut a long story short, if you want to upgrade to XP - go ahead, I did and I'm happy!

Keep Win2000 and get Object Desktop to make it look like XP
I still have not seen any reason to upgrade to XP. I will admit if you want the looks and sounds of Windows then get XP. With XP you can also use XP Logons. I think XP runs some programs better (but "some" is not a real reason to upgrade)
I would just wait. Upgrade in 2005.

I lived in hell for almost a year with ME then went right on to XP so I never even used 2000. I love XP and have extremely few problems. Actually from what I have heard I was one of the few that did not have any problems after the SP1 up-date.

98se - Great worked fine
ME - Can shove this up MS's :censored: - Hardware issues out of the wazoo
2K - Could put up with it - Just didn't like the fun stuff that you could do on ME and 98. It's built for servers and security. So, if your planning on running a server, this is a good go. I've also love the blue screen of death every so many hours from me pushing it just way too far.
XP - The best ever! - Got the best of all worlds. It's 98, ME, and 2k in one package. You got the latest in security, games, movie maker, and much more. I had no hardware issues. Maybe a little but I have some stuff that most people won't have. I built mine from parts. This will only crash or reboot when I really push. I'm talking I have 80processes running at the same time. I normally run around 60 and at this very moment it's at 57.
I'm sortof like Jafo, push the computers to their limits.

I think I rambled enough for now.

O', I forget one..
Mac OSx - Haven't tried it - I used the older ones when I used to repair Macs. I just don't like the interface.
O', issue with playing games. Only good for designing! That's what they were orginaly used for. Mostly Arcutecture Design.

Thanks guys! I really appreciate everyones response.
I really do like w2k, I haven't really had any problems out of it. It's been very stable. I had WinME before that and hated it. Had nothing but problems with it. But after a lot of thought (and with some help from you guys) I think I am going to take the plunge and upgrade to XP. It just has some really neat features that 2000 doesn't have. So I'm going for it!
