Uploading : Sick of it

Monday, January 27, 2003 by ToolWraith | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

Ok. I try and I try, and i make great skins (well, not as great as some of those expert skinners) but i can NEVER upload them! Usually, it is based on something like Starcraft or Halo and it is usually rejected. It is rejected cuz of some copyright thing, so finally, I amde a wallpaper. It turned out really great, and it was ALL my own original work, but it still got rejected! it met all the rules and guidelines, but the reason was simply "Moderated"...>WHAT THE HELL DOES THAT MEAN!?!? well, i don't care what it means, i'm just tired of being a reject

'Moderated' simply means that your particular wallpaper was not what the admins were looking for, and therefore was not added to the site. It may has lacked something essential or just have been a 'filter-fest' where it's mostly the software doing the artwork and not you. Please remember that something you think is 'great' my might also been so as so by others. It's often down to personal taste... saying that the admins do generally know what people out there want as well.

But the important thing is not to be discourged, keep trying... look at others work, see what makes a good 'wallpaper', something usable, something people will want to download and set to their desktops. If you feel you lack some of the skills you need, try playing around with some tutorials for Photoshop or Bryce or whatever graphics software you use. Keep practicing, and then your work will make it onto the site for all to see - I'm sure of it

Only the best of the best wallpapers are accepted here to keep WinCustomize from becoming just another wallpaper site. Many people submit a dozen or more before they come up with something exceptional. I'm sure some of the wallpaper artists here can elaborate.

As for skins, you simply can't take graphics that belong to someone else and upload them without permission. Try making a skin based on your own graphics rather than a game.

Keep on trying ToolWraith, believe in yourself and keep creating. I know it's hard and you feel discouraged and not appreciated. We all go through the same process though and if you keep plugging away, I'm sure you will get something accepted here. It's an honor to have your work accepted on this site, unlike other places that will take anything at all.
Good Luck and don't lose hope!

At least you've gone through the effort of finishing something and uploading it, unlike other people whom I won't mention out of fear of incriminating myself! *coughcough*

Tool, I just have to say that I've also had wallpapers rejected. Actually all of them

And about the copyright thing. You have to go to the creator's website and read their info on their images and name. Alot of them you will have to have written promission or you are just not allowed to use them.

But like what was said. Don't give up. Push yourself further if you get denied.

Not all of them, Weaksid...

ToolWraith....a plethora of tools does not a craftsman make, but merely a hardware shop, or a garage.

The trick is to be able to wield all these 'tools' but at the end of the day still retain all your fingers...
