How do you get your company name copyrited?

Does anybody know? How much does it cost? I have been to a few sites but actually I am still unsure about information I am recieving. So I figured better to ask on the message board.

but they seem to be on a buy my software kick. I just want to do it the old fashioned way and file it myself. I am joining this program called WIBO (http://www.wibo.org)and it seems to be pretty good. a Smester of training and all you have to do is buy a book that is actually good.
Any opinions? Suggestions?

Joe, I think you will have to register your company name with the appropriate Government Department.
Out here (in very round numbers!) it cost me something like A$1500.00 to register our company and our domain name, the last is renewed every two years, and there are several other smaller charges as well.
But yes, I suppose if you have an accountant or a legal adviser that would be the way to start.
How about checking to see if you have some sort of local service like the old "Better Business Bureau" or "Chamber of Commerce" ...... but it will cost you money, that's for sure!

Is it a small buisness or a large one?
Because there is a thing called a Fictios (something like that) name which you have to look around. One is free and you don't have to register it. I was looking into that because I wanted to start a PC Repair Biz

thanks. I am learning allot about this copyrite issue. I didn't know it was illegel to do so many things. Also I didn't know how much it took to get your own ideas, name, and work protected.
This is a really big issue.
I was talking to my Mom this morning that from what I understand, you can't give a copy of a movie, music or a book o a friend and still have your copy. It is ok to make a copy for yourself but nobody else.
But it gets so merky after that... I though it was mine when I bought it? I am not making copies and selling them, or the big one, it is just to my closest friends.
About a month ago I had a chance to get 3D Studio and Flash off of on of those sites for ree. Now I am glad I didn't do it.
