Free at last: After Windows 10, consumers won't pay for updates or upgrades
Great. Now I'm starting to have concerns about how forceful they'll try to be with windows market integration. There was a rumor a couple of years back that it was going to be mandatory for all software.

On the other hand, this probably pushes DX12 about a decade forward.

Okay so how I read it is that as long as I upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10 during it's first year of availability it is free. If I choose to upgrade after that I would have to pay.
If I am wrong would someone please correct me. Sometime I do try to make things more difficult then they are. If I'm correct that would be hard to pass up.
1. It will be free on any machine (W7, W8.1) as an upgreade (not clean install).
2. If for any reason you change your mobo (perhaps even processor) on that machine, you will have to buy a W10 license.
3. It won't be sold as a subscription (i.e. the Adobe software model). (http://www.pcgamer.com/microsoft-windows-10-will-not-be-sold-as-a-subscription/)
Also:
"It is very clear from this post that for the first year it's available, you can upgrade to Windows 10 for free if you have Windows 7 or 8. You will not pay for it. After that year is up, nothing will happen to your Windows 10 license. If you do not upgrade within that year, however, you will have to pay for an upgrade. The offer expires after a year, not the upgrade."

As far as i read it you get the upgrade free the first year iof you own win7 or windows8
You do not get it if either Win7 or Win8 are enterprise or RT-Starter editions.
The way i see it once hardware is changed the SSID needs to be changed or you return back to your previous OS.
However i think once you upgraded you will keep your license for a lifetime meaning that if you change hardware you will still be able to use windows10
If not it would be ironic to try to get most of the users off OS like Win7 and below to use windows10.

I wasn't aware that we ever paid for "updates".
