DesktopX - url feature problem

Friday, January 3, 2003 by gef | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

It's probably a simple matter but when I enter a url ( eg. http:\\www.wincustomize.com\) then click on the link I created, I get a 'The specified path does not exist' message ? - Is this possibly a problem with XP or am I missing something.

Sorry Wom, I used 'copy & paste' to make sure it was entered correctly so this does not correct the problem.

I just made a new object and pasted your link into the URL box of the URL defined object and it worked ok for me.

lol, oops, sorry...I know that doesn't help you much, but I can't see why anything would be going wrong.

gef, I honestly don't know what the problem could possibly be. It's so straight forward. Nothing else on your machine should be causing any kind of conflict with a DX object as a URL shortcut.

Please bear with me on this next part, I'm sure you already know this, but I want to cover everything.

Create a new object, click on the button next to "type of object" called 'change'
pull down the drop down list and choose URL, then type in https://www.wincustomize.com/ in the text box and click OK then click apply, then click OK.

I just did exactly that and it worked.

werewolf - Still no good, it's driving me mad !!!

1. Create new object.
2. Object class - Select URL
3. Configure - http://www.google.com/
4. Apply ... OK

could you possibly post your object on the DX binaries newsgroup? I could take a look at it.

hmmm... try it without the http:// for example....www.wincustomize.com and see if that works. I never use the http stuff at the beginning in my themes, and they all seem to work. worth a shot!

WEREWOLF- I've entered my email address on my account ( just click on my name ).
I can email you a zipped file containing screen shots of the various stages of setting up the URL link if you let me know your email.....

Do you have a pop-up blocker? If so, try disabling it.

No, doesn't work on mine. It's identical to the one I did.
Don't know if it will help but I've sent you the entire theme. ( Not mine, I'm just playing with it to get used to DesktopX).
