DesktopX - url feature problem

It's probably a simple matter but when I enter a url ( eg. http:\\www.wincustomize.com\) then click on the link I created, I get a 'The specified path does not exist' message ? - Is this possibly a problem with XP or am I missing something.

actually, it will probably end up being something very easily found and remedied that all of us should have thought of in the first place

If you enter the url into Start->run and press enter does ie start and go to that site? If not then I suspect that the problem is outside DX.

Right, I've deleted all DesktopX and then re-installed. Problem still exists so I'm sure it's connected with some other program.
Anyone know of a program or setting that might cause this to happen. I am also using 'Windowblinds', 'Iconpackager','Nextstart' etc.
This is driving me MAD!!! All other aspects of DesktopX work perfectly.

I have just tried 'Run' to go to the URL and that doesn't work either so I agree that the problem is elsewhere.But where ??????????????????????????/

Windows XP has many features and security settings You may have activated this undesired effect by chance... although I do not know of a specific setting I can give you two places too look. Please note I use XP Pro and you may not have full access to these tools if you are using XP Home.
1. in your accessories menu under Administrative tools... did you disable any services recently? If so change them back to their default.
2. gpedit.msc most likely if the change was here it was done by a program but you can browse around and see what settings there are. But be sure to read the description of each b4 making any changes. Sorry I couldn't be of more help then that.

&tatic - I do not seem to have 'gpedit.msc' unless that doesn't work either. I am using XP Home though so that might explain it.
The only thing I have touched in the Administritive (System)tools is 'Defrag'. Could that cause any problems.

That is doubtful however a prog could have changed some settings on you... tracking this down would be an evil job at the very least. If you have only encountered this problem recently might I suggest you try to "back up the clock" use system restore... restore your system back a few days maybe even a week or two. Unfortunately if this problem is beyond the reach of System Restore you may need to reinstall. One more tool you might try is the system file checker. Should it be a corrupt file this will fix it. Have your XP disk on hand just incase. In the run dialog box type "sfc /scannow" note the space between the sfc and the / then press enter... now if your not able to run anything from the run dialog I would have to say definitely something is corrupted. if sfc is able to run reboot and try your url short cut again.

One other thing to consider is: Windows XP did not until a recent recommended windows update did not handle browsers other then IE very well... so if your using a different browser then IE as default make sure you visit the update site and install the update for other default browsers.

try opening a totally blank DX theme...
1. Save the theme your using now
2. Use the object browser and delete everything
3. Right click on the DX systray icon and choose restart dx
4. go into the dx configuration menus and poke around in there...uncheck everything you don't need. Keep single click activation. Make it the absolute barest bones dx theme possible.
5. Do the restart dx thing again.
6. make a new object to be a URL shortcut.
If this doesn't help your problem, I have no idea what will.
