UniverseMetal skin

Monday, December 30, 2002 by YMark | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

Has anyone here purchased the UniverseMetal skin from Pixtudio, designed by Treetog? I really like the skin and although I'm not a big fan of charging for skins, I'd like to try it before I buy it. For some reason Treetog doesn't reply to emails, which is another reason I'm hesitant on buying this.... no support.
Email me if you'd rather.. [email protected]

Thanks

This is an absolutely great suite of skins. They all work great for me. Treetog is an upstanding gentleman and is one of the masters of the art of skinning. If he hasn't replied to your e-mails, there must be a good reason.

Thanks werewolf, I'm running the ObjectBar skin for this theme now. I've done quite a few mods to it and think I just might get the rest of the suite.

I have purchased both UniverseMetal and Logika from Pixtudio and have to say that I am quite satisfied with both of them. They are certainly worth the money.

There can be doubt whatever that anything done by treetog is meticulously crafted.
Have no fear about buying the suite.. you couldn't possibly be disappointed.

Thank you for the supportive words guys, but please note, that this suite was done by Pixtudio, wich means Alexandrie and me, in fact Alexandrie was the creator of the suite's concept, in my opinion, her best creation work so far.

When using this skin, I take it if you use Object Bar, you won't use NextStart? Or is it possible to have NextStart menus popup using a "hotspot"?

I went ahead and purchased the skin. Too bad it won't install. I downloaded and ran the UniverseMetal.exe file and at the end of the installation it launches WinStyles. I then applied the UniverseMetal theme and it lookes like it is loading but nothing happens. If I launch WindowBlinds, NextStart, etc. the new UniverseMetal themes are not listed and can't be found anywhere.

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks

You can unzip the .exe file instead of running it and I think you can find the individual files you need in there (i.e. *.wba=windowblinds skin, etc). Hope this helps.

Thanks for the help, but I did that and there are 3 files in the .exe file. Setup.exe, a .ini file, and and .SDtheme file. I ran the .exe file and it didn't help either.

For some reason, when I hit apply in WinStyles the theme unzips and acts as if it installs, but the only thing that changes is my wallpaper. I have WB, NextStart, WorkShelf, and ObjectBar installed.

Thanks again for the suggestion. Treetog........where are you?

Try unzipping the .SDtheme file. I am only guessing here as I do not use Winstyles.

Do a search on your computer and see where the universe metal files were placed. In windowblinds, it should've gone to C:\Program Files\Object Desktop\WindowBlinds\universemetal

I bought the universe metal suite some time ago and don't recall it being wrapped up in an *.exe file. As a matter of fact, I am looking at the zip file on my hard drive now and it is just that - a zip file with all the individual skins contained within. Certainly less complicated than the scenario you are painting.

I did a search for the files. They're nowhere to be found.

My unzip program won't uzip the .SDtheme file. Thanks for the suggestion though.

You have to rename it to .zip first.

Thanks c242. I'm slowly making some progress trying to get this installed.

On another note... and I'll make it clear... I DON'T condone software piracy. With that being said, I can fully understand why so many people don't pay for "shareware". Support is non-existant and if there are problems you have to hunt for answers.

I find it rather disturbing that Treetog can find the time to read this thread and thank people for the compliments, yet he can't find the time to reply ONCE to any of my emails regarding the bad install file I was sent.

Treetog.... you make wonderful skins and your artistic talent is remarkable. Your business skills need an overhaul.

Please note that Treetog is not the programmer of WinStyles, so he is not the one to blame for it. As i noticed WinStyles causes several problems on different configurations, I always avoided to use it to apply themes because of these problems.

OK, let's say WinStyles is the problem. Since the ONLY file that came with the puchase uses WinStyles, it's up to Treetog and/or Pixtudio to supply me with file(s) that do work.

Directly from their web site... "The suite include graphical interface and special edition of Stardock Winstyles installer, so this suite will install automatically even if you don't have Winstyles."

Still waiting on an email..........

YMark, c242 is correct, I am not the right person to help you, but I just forwarded your email to Alexandrie and I am sure she will help you

YMark....
treetog's 'business skills' doesn't need defending, BUT it IS the holiday season, ew Year, and even treetog has a 'Real Life'[tm]...and emails are not necessarily 'instant'.
Try to allow a respectable amount of time for an appropriate response under these circumstances.
My sister-in-law has to wait an additional 2 weeks to be able to move into her new house because the Building Inspector is on holiday.
It is all about 'perspective'.

treetog's qualities do not stop at 'wonderful skins', he is also a very good person...
