Start8tweak not working
Tuesday, November 18, 2014 by Phoon | Discussion: Object Desktop
I'm trying to use Start8tweak to unload Start8 which was the prescribed method in the past.
Now, when you try to launch it, it just opens https://www.stardock.com/products/start8/update.asp .
I'm already running the latest version (1.47).

If I tried to start it in its original Stardock folder, which was in "Program Files (x86)," I got the same Download v1.47 page that you did.
Hmmmm...same here. Phoon, you surprise me. I thought you used 8 au naturale...

Copying to desktop worked here as well! WTF?

I only wanted it to change the start button graphic Jim. I've disabled the old style start menu.
and WTF.. Why would one have to drag the exe to the desktop to make it work.

You can change the start button without changing to the old style menu? Enlighten me, oh Windows 8 guru.....

In the config of start8 there are options of what to do when you click the start button and windows key. Just select the choice of using the windows 8 menu for those.
However... you still lose the right click options on the start button that are native to the OS.

Please download the Start8 app from your downloads and you should be able to use Start8Tweak.exe after installing again.

That made zero difference.
The version in my downloads is Start8_1.47_setup_sd (which is the same version I had installed). Start8tweak still could not run unless I moved it out of c:\program files (x86)\stardock\start8 folder.
I tried reinstall and fresh install. Neither made a difference.

ok.. I'm only replying again in case you didn't see that your prescribed "fix" does nothing. Acknowledge, or not, it's up to you but at least I gave it a whirl.

I had the same problem until I copied Start8tweak.exe from the Stardock folder to the Desktop and ran it from there. If I tried to start it in its original Stardock folder, which was in "Program Files (x86)," I got the same Download v1.47 page that you did.
