ModernMix crashes Windows 10 Preview Modern Apps

Is there a fix?

Wednesday, October 22, 2014 by winstar4 | Discussion: Skinning

This morning I installed ModernMix in Windows 10 Preview. I wanted to add Modern Apps to my desktop. When I click on a Modern App it opens, turns completely black, and then disappears (crashes). Once I uninstalled ModernMix the Modern Apps open as usual. I do like adding them to my desktop via ModernMix. Any suggestions? I know "Preview" equals buggy, but I thought Stardock would like to know this information.

Traditionally, Stardock apps are designed to work with the RTM, not Beta or Preview editions of MS OSs. The reason for that is the many probable changes in the OS before its final release.

Start8 and ModernMix are sold as a bundle. Start8 works fine with Windows 10 Preview. My mistake thinking they would both work with Windows 10 Preview.

Nothing is officially supported for Windows 10 yet as it's just an early preview.  We are looking at compatibility and thanks for posting any feedback.

Stardock often bundles their software. It remains up to the purchaser as to suitability/fitness of purpose. As had been said and you stated yourself, you can't expect software to play well on a Developer Preview. Hell, there is stuff that won't run right on my current OS (Win7/64bit) which is far from a preview stage.

P.S.  Looking at your join date, you didn't just step off the bus. That being said..... Asking "Is there a fix?" in your subtitle just screams nOOb.

Thanks for playing, have a great day!

As we're all aware, Stardock's releases of compatible software MUST ALWAYS be post-RTM as it's close integration with the OS will almost always break with early variations/revisions of the OS.

That said, there'll always be those who think 3 nanoseconds is the allowed lead-time from RTM to release...

DrJBHL "Stardock apps are designed to work with the RTM , JAFO "Stardock's releases of compatible software MUST ALWAYS be post-RTM". Is this a distinction without a difference or a contradiction?

My purpose for the original post was to inform Stardock of my experience with ModernMix installed on Windows 10 "Preview", not to convey any type of impatience with a lack of compatibility at this early stage. As Island Dog stated "Nothing is officially supported for Windows 10 yet as it's just an early preview".

moshi "isn't ModernMix obsolete with Windows 10?" moshi this tip is posted on PT's Winsupersite http://winsupersite.com/windows-10/windows-10-tip-pin-universal-apps-desktop If this is what it will be (or the only option we will have), I sure hope Fences will remove those ugly shortcut arrows (as it usually does). Pinning live tiles to the desktop would also be a nice addition. Windows 10 does "window" Modern Apps without the help of ModernMix.

Nope....same thing worded differently...'post RTM' means NOT BEFORE.

RTM stands for 'release to manufacture'.

At that stage ONLY is an OS considered 'Gold'....and ONLY at that time can an OS be trusted not to change before Users are using it...and thus maybe expecting 3rd party software to be compatible.

It is easy as pie to make a proggy compatible to an Alpha of an OS...but almost always no actual point...as the OS ALWAYS changes post Alpha.

And post Beta....

And, annoyingly...even post marketing ... via Updates/service packs/et al. ...
