Everyday represents how many day or days in the week that something accurs. So Every is not the name of the day.
Light switches do not have ON/OFF any more because many home now have a 2 way lighting system that would allow swicthes to be turned in 2 or more parts of the room. So one could be in the "on" position while another would be in the "off". When the other was turned "on" the twin would still say "off", of which, of course, it is obviously not at this case.

The reason that switches have 'on' and 'off' on them is so that BLIND people can tell, since they cannot see the light.
