random letter guy: it's even better than jaguar's dock. Cause you get to have the dock AND to run Windows too! The best of all worlds.

I prefer Jaguar to Windows.. I use WindowBlinds at work so that I don't have to look at the stupid WinXP interface all day long. Jaguar is beautiful to look at, and with Unix underneath, you get the best of everything.
Windows is junk, the only reason why people use it is because it's cheap (pirating it is still easy) and it runs on cheap/crappy hardware.

My opinion is that you typically get a lot more than what you pay for. For example, you can get a good OS (Linux) for free. You can get tons of good software for free (freeware, opensource, etc.). On top of that, you can get hardware cheap too. I'll bet it would have been tough to imagine 5 years ago that you could pick up a full-blown 2GHz machine with 19" monitor for around $600.
That aside, I do get your point Mr Shatfield. Windows definitely has room for improvement. But I've always said that Windows will be king simply because it has a million and one apps for it (oh yeah, and it helps that it comes preinstalled on almost every PC you buy). I still can't fully switch to another OS because I'd leave my favorite apps behind.

I have a PC and I have an iMac.
The iMac has many nice things about it. But speed is not one of them.
My view is that while MacOS has a lot of cool things about it, it doesn't have enough to overcome the negatives that come with using something that is a niche.

The default XP interface is a bit clunky...even Fisher-Price...but the OS is quite solid.
When all that is of concern is cosmetics, well lookie here, we can skin things, and shell things, and create a truly 'stylish' experience [GUI], more-so than Apple, or anu other fruity OS could hope to muster as a default.
Skinning was created to improve our 'enjoyment' of the computing experience, and with XP we also get a reliable environment in which to enjoy it.
Once upon a time, Mac users prided themselves on their myopic belief that their system was the 'best' as it didn't crash [as much]. Seems they are now truly misguided if they are still hanging on to that one.
My mate recently lost EVERYTHING on an OS update on his Mac. Strangely, I have NEVER lost 'everything' in years of PC use, even though I have often done considerably more than a mere 'OS update'...
Bang for your buck, a PC will have it over a Mac....until the time Macs are cloned the same as IBMs were/are...

Object Dock is way cool. Unfortunately it corrupts Objectbar and Windowblinds at the moment. But when it's fixed.. I'll be a-haven it!

All the Docks emulator are pretty good in their own way, the drawback with ObjectDock is the ressource used. it's mor than the other two. And for some people, this is a issue. beside that it as a lot more toys to play around with.

I'm willing to bet that a lot of the people who moan that programs like ObjectDock and Winamp 3 are using too much memory have 512Mb of RAM in their PCs. Mine is using 13Mb for OD and I have 512Mb of RAM thats.....ohhhh ummm

2.5% can make a difference for people running alot of background apps not knowing what's on their machine Woodbridge. Alot of folks don't know they have 15 different softwares running in the background and they only have 256 mb of RAM. I run 1 gig so I don,t really care. Stardock's software use usually a lot of memory. You kinda get use to it

the only time my CPU (not memory) was maxed out, was when i used a stock ticker. that used upto 70% of CPU power. once i deleted that from my theme - was back to normal.
and has anyone ever known these apps crash?

The more shared DLLs they use, the more memory task manager claims they use.
That's why Internet Explorer, Explorer, ObjectDock, and ObjectBar see such high numbers. They're not actually using that much RAM.
As for ObjectDock vs. yZ dock vs. Moby, they're all free. Though I must confess I don't understand how soeone can say that yZ is "way better" when it doesn't have a taskbar option. That's kind of half the point of the dock.

explorer 17472k ? hehe ... makes a LiteStepper smile. current theme, fully featured (16 modules), all graphics 3092k (and it has everything Sysmetrix has, even anti-aliased clock hands).

This is because Litestep doesn't make much use of shared DLLs while Explorer does.

Here's another thing that's interesting regarding Windows and memory usage:
1) Run taskmanager, note how much memory a particular application is reported as consuming
2) Minimize the application
This goes along with what Brad was saying about how the applications aren't necessarily taking up as much ram as you're sometimes lead to believe.

And the funny thing too is that it doesn't get back all its original Mem usage after you restore it back.
