exam anxiety ...

Friday, May 23, 2014 by benmanns | Discussion: Life, the Universe and Everything

Today I wrote my final exam in mathematics.

The result is probably bad.

I have a week in the run-learned most of the time after class from 2-8 pm as after this time I cannot concentrate and soak up the stuff that is needed.

So I was very well prepared but the problem is that I am suffering from extreme exam anxiety ...
I tried several methods already to keep myself in the fence but without success.
Meditation, deep breathing, and trying to keep in mind that life is a test in itself as well as focusing not to panic.

But most of the time I end up with Racing heart to heart sting what is not to advantage of my health condition.

My pre grade is 1 or A, however, the exam will downgrade it to a 3 or 4.

What for me again represents a wasted year because I will not be accepted with this grade.

So I wanted to ask if you do have any tips for me in what more i could do to alleviate this panic.

No matter what I would be grateful about any advice.

There is a high possibility that I do not find the time to answer to comments given because Monday Tuesday and the following week I will be writing 4 more audit reviews/exams.

However, I'm going to peek in the evening and take a look and try tips provided.

Thank you.

Sounds to me like you're trying too hard. What I would do is step back, put on my favorite music, grab pencil and paper and doodle. All the stuff on your exam...play with it, have fun with it. It could be nonsense stuff or whatever but the point is to take your mind off worrying and relax it.

Not such a bad idea and i did this on saturday and it kind of worked to chill me down while learning
Have to chance to test it tomorrow.

But for now iam a bit stuck...
with something else

Part of the exam is writing a proper email order
Not sure what i shall order but the form is important.

MY guess is that it will look something like this
To: email
From: email
Date: 25th May 2014
Subject: Order of... Order No.  .... New Order No. 123XYZ

Dear Mr. or Mrs. xxxxxxxxxx, ( if i understood correctly there is a chance that there will be an unknown person this email has to be directed to)
In that case
To whom it might concern,

We are in urgend need of replacement of waxom tablets and accessorys and we like to order as follows.
alternative
We would like to order as follows
or.
Please accept this purchase order as follows:

No.               Item                                                Quantity       Unit Price           Total
1         waxom tablet holo touch                              40                 20                     xxx Mickeymark
2.          holo glove with pressure sensitivity          40                 20                    xxx Mickeymark
                                      -----------------------------------------------------------
                                                                                                                               xxx Mickeymarks

As a matter of principle goods of inferior quality will be returned.
Payment of invoice will be made within 30 days
or.
Payment will be done within 10 days

We shall appreciate early shipment.
Thank you in advance for your promt execution of our order.

As far as i understood it does not hurt to add a wanted action to this part. such as
Please should you need any additional information contact me under ( phone number 1 ) at your earliest convenience or send me a mail at email .

Sincerly /or with best Regards,

Ben

The question is if this would be acceptable if filled with proper information
or if i would need to work on the form.

Extreme anxiety (whether situational or not) is probably best treated by your Doctor, and not here in Forums.

There are several modalities which can be engaged, but it's best to speak with him/her about them.

You might also be well advised to remove your email address from response #2, if it's not a business email address.

Work on the form.....purchase a dictionary...a solid-state one.  Learn to use it.

Re Exam anxiety....don't sweat it....everyone suffers/suffered so it remains a level playing field.

Bottom line.....

Education is an EXPERIENCE, not a TRIAL.    Just live it....

i know and i have been to a doc already thats why i know about the meditation classes and breathing exercises one can undertake... sadly it didnt help me
so i thought it might help to ask if someone experienced something similar.
I was told you can help anxiety with pharmacy but im not the one who is happy to jump into a bowl of pills before i have tested natural tricks to overcome it.
I removed the email even though they all have been fictional...
To the form...
Is there any specific tipp you can give me what to change?

What i know is that if it is a buisness order i need to be short specific and that i have to use please every time i want the reader to step into action.
But im unsure about the part below Thank you in advance... DO i have to be that formal or could i just write If there is any problem or if you need any further information contact me under.....

I like that

I am pretty sure not everyone suffers from the same levels of stress/anxiety, so its definitely not a level field.

If the first modality tried doesn't work, you return and report failure, and try other modalities.

While at University I suffered from such extreme exam anxiety that after leaving the exams, I couldn't recall if I have even written my name and student number on the paper let alone a single fact or figure regarding the subject I was just tested on.   Had a complete memory dump, for a lack of a better metaphor.  So you are not alone.

Here's how I dealt with it.  I knew the stuff forwards and back, just had to remind myself that it was not the end of the world if I got less than 100% on the dang things.  I had a superb GPA and even aced the stats and neuropsych courses!  I simply  did not open my notes or join in the study groups quizzing each other  while waiting to go into the exam room.  Instead I found a quiet corner,  took a moment,  a deep  laming breath, reminded myself that I knew this stuff backwards and forwards. It worked for me.   Believing in yourself is powerful.

As a fellow anxiety sufferer I would suggest thinking back of all the times you felt the same anxiousness and realize you are still here, somehow survived it, so it is in your power to do so, and why should this occasion be different.

Just think, twenty four hours from that crucial moment, you will be looking back at that moment, saying, ahh, not so bad, I made it through.

Cheers and luck, DT1.

After my construction engineering exam/test (to get bachelors degree) i had crystals of salt on the collar of my shirt - i sweated that much LOL. It was truly stressful experience.

Anyway, once the exam was over, the anxiety was gone. So i could live with that. Few years later tough i experienced something worse - that kind of anxiety, which just would not go away for weeks no matter what - until finally the doctors gave me some medications. During that period i could not properly eat, work nor do anything worthwile. I would wake up in the middle of the night with my heart racing and felt like vomiting every damn morning. All of that ofc, for no good reason, with no previous warning. Those were truly the darkest days for me.

Bottom line, until you hit this low, you are fine.

Its not that bad as you describe timmaigh but i do wake up during the nights sweaty and i do dream about the class that is next for the exam solving tasks in sleep.
The bad thing is once i wake up my brain starts getting active, once the first thought is done i can not get to sleep anymore i sometimes end up sleeping 3-4 hours max during these times since i cant force myself back to sleep again.

Im not a huge fan of pharmacy, since i know that it is a mental thing that i have to overcome and accept that the world does indeed not stop after i fail a test or exam.
The problem here is that im to eager i simply do not want to get a grade below B. sometimes, and in most cases a B is nbot good enough.
Its not because i want to have a perfect score but i do judge myself for not understanding the task that is provided. So im more afraid of failing myself and beeing an idiot.
[e digicons]:')[/e]  haha

Anyway i had my english exam yesterday, german exam today and tried hard not to panic
solved most of it the question remains how well i did in 20 days i will know.... final one and hardest will be on Monday, after that it a long time waiting to know how i scored.
