Trouble with Smart Buttons

Saturday, November 23, 2002 by Mercury | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

I'm adding Smart Button support into my new skin but there seems to be a problem with the quickl.wbp - the menu will come up but nothing happens after clicking a selection. Anybody know if I've done something incorrectly or if this is a known bug?

TIA,
Merc

I am trying to add a smart button and can't even get it to show.
I even copied the code from the help file and still won't show.
Is the titlebar button used (6 images) or the smart button (10 images)

I'm using a titlebar button (6 images) with no image defined for the Smart Button. All seem to work fine with the exception of the Quick Launch.

Starone: I have the same problem with your skin on this particular machine, however my other XP box works fine.

Sally: Basically it's a problem on W2k but should work on XP.

That brings up a question. I fixed the menu but how can I be sure it will work on a 2k machine if I don't have 2k installed.

I've had to give up on the quicklaunch smart button...Instead of launching the app, it launches Object Edit with the apps executable in it

Suggestions on how I can test the smart button for WIn 2k w/o knowing anyone with that OS would really be appreciated.

FWIW.. I added a URL button and configured it to open the Favorite folder instead of a URL. Maybe this can work for different things like the ql folder. Not exactly a menu but something like a little better than nothing.

find someone who gets curious a lot, and who runs win2k

i prefer to avoid the word "volunteer", but i am willing to test it for you

the quick launch smart button can be "broken" on both win2k and winXP by installing ObjectEdit.

once you have this problem, anything selected from the menu opens in OE, even executables.

the only real solution i have ever found to this is removing OE from the equation.

werewolf, have you tried un-installing OE? a bit drastic, but this (hopefully) should work.

No I've never tried that. Questioning the balance OE=QuickLaunch Smart buttons, OE wins.

but, but, you have SO many skins with smart buttons to choose between!!!

out of interest, other than starone, has anyone actually uploaded a skin with smart buttons in it?

werewolf, intermediate plan is:

rename "oe.exe" to "oe_furry.exe", and update your shortcuts. might work, if you dont run it from the command prompt

that's an option for test purposes

Thanks for the offer feline.

Realistically, there is so many better themes than mine, it would be wasting your time testing my smart button since no one will be using my theme long enough to use the button.

feline suspects that Sally is fishing for compliments

if i spent all my time complimenting all the women i found on their skins, i could get into a lot of trouble!

however, if you really are interested, i am willing to have a test / look

Nooo..
I am not fishing for compliments. I am being honest.
