Seems a public relations advisor to our Prime Minister Jean Chretien has referred to President Bush as a "moron", and she said it to a journalist.
Seems to me that a person supposedly trained in the art of public relations who can't even use diplomatic language when speaking of a head of state is the real moron.
Oh well. She is now a very much hated person in the U.S., and rightly so.
For what it's worth, here is one Canadian's apology for that Canadian's bout of foot-in-mouth disease.

WOM, I think it was just one of those 'out of context' things. One of those words that unfortunately have permeated our vocabulary. I doubt that she meant it in the true sense of the word.
Even I find myself using the word sometimes. It's an all purpose word. If someone does something you don't like you say "what a moron". It doesn't mean you think they are a moron in the true sense of the word, it is used more as a comment on the immediate situation then on the person themself.

It was published with no reference to the context, by reporters that overheard her say it in a private conversation. I think it sucks that there is such a big deal over it. The members of Bush's staff call the PM of Canada 'Dino' (for dinosaur) constantly. The idea that a single, overheard word could end somone's career is horrible to me, even if I disagree with the word itself.

Well I'm sure she didn't say anything that Americans haven't said at one time or another about their Presidents (take your pick). Although when the press is around, politicians (especially a PR advisor) should by now realize that anything said or overheard is press fodder. She shoulda said "What a maroon."

Speaking hypothetically - if an elected official is a moron, that speaks badly of the people who voted for him, and even worse for the opposition who couldn't even mount a successful challenge to the candidacy of a moron.
