Vote 4 the best crooners

Saturday, November 23, 2002 by @shu | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

OK, here's a poll that most people would like to participate in, rate the three best singers according to you: era, language no bar. If he/she is not well known outside the region, maybe it would help to put in a little description. But mind you, NO GROUPS. just solo artists.

hmm I don't really listen to voice much, I'm more into music for the background thump & vibes or vibrations... hehe
but if I had to choose a nice voice I think that girl from sixpence none the richer...

Great topic!

Well, many good mentions here so I'll just tack on some of my favs that haven't been listed above since there are plenty of good lady crooners too :

In no particular order since all of the artists below are all so gifted and talented in their own way that to place them in a “best to worst” would be shameful:

Soft, sweet female crooners:
~Tony Braxton (“Unbreak my heart” is sooooo beautiful and many others, her voice takes you to the edge and back).
~Sarah McLachlan (Her voice is just so lovely to listen to and "In the arms of the Angel" still can make me cry when I hear it).
~Sade (Beautiful, sultry, sexy and utterly feminine voice).
~Natalie Umbruglia (She has a certain vulnerability to her voice that is hauntingly beautiful).
~Shania Twain (Her voice is so pretty it almost tickles to listen).
~Anita Baker (A voice that is like a heavenly instrument if ever there was one).

Strong, powerful female crooners:
~Celine Dion (I know she’s been overplayed to death but boy can she hit those notes)!
~Alannah Myles (Black Velvet was her big hit…I dunno if she’s come out with anything since then but her whole CD rocked)!
~Annie Lennox (Her voice tells you like it is in no uncertain terms ).

BTW If anyone is terribly bored you today (he-he) can hear me croon on my ten dollar computer mic to a generic midi file (what a sales-pitch but hey it's all I had to work with! ) at: http://www.darkseraphim.com/ds/music/Angel.zip

Hmm. I'm studying up on skinning...widgets and goblins and warlocks oh my!

Old favorite male singer of mine Harry Chapin " great story teller"
Newer favorite male singer Chad Krouger of Nickleback

Old favorite female singer "Barbara" of course "great voice" although I have to also pick a second and agree with JamMeister,
Pat Benatar is fantastic.
Newer favorite female singer voice wise I think I'll have to pick Alicia Keys but let me think on this one.
