To bakerstreet

Thursday, November 21, 2002 by JamMeister33 | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

Bakerstreet, on looking back over the entire thread from out last "conversation" I have realised that yes, you were just trying to be helpful or something in your own way. I know you probably don't care but I apologise to you anyway for my infantile and just downright mean-spirited remarks. Being in a bad mood, having a bad day, being on cold medication etc. is no excuse for the way I acted. It is very obvious to me after re-reading the thread that I attacked you for no good reason. I guess I'm just an idiot with a hair trigger temper. You don't need to reply to this and I don't expect one. I am very sorry for the way I acted to you and to anyone else that I offended. I'm not sure why I sometimes try to pick fights with people but I will make a concerted effort to refrain from doing so in the future.

Sincerely,
Jim

I may not have made myself clear enough in my apology to bakerstreet. I wish to apologise to every single member of this community for being such an idiot.

Sorry to hear of your ailment c242. Is this condition treatable?

Jam... this seems to be a pattern with you......... you rant and rave, act an @$$, then say you're sorry.
My dog,(my buddy for 10 years) died yesterday. I guess you could say I was having a 'bad day'...... no reason to attack people, is it?
I agree with c242........ enough is enough..........the next time you have a bad day, I hope you can control yourself, if not I hope you are exiled.
I was offended by your behavior last night, and I will not accept your appology, until it becomes obvious that you aren't going to fly off the handle again.

Koasati : Yes it is. But it lasts a while. I finally found time to not go to work without any loss. And thank whoever invented remote access first, so I can connect to my business machine from time to time.

I'm not gonna even address 90% of the idiotic stuff you said. I'll address the idea that everyone around here, or in the community 'hates' me.

You have to understand, when I call Jark an ass, or tell Jafo he's a nut; I've known these people for over 3 years. I was griping at Frogboy on the Skinz messageboard before 90% of the 'community' existed. Do I expect everyone in this little break room to be my friend or even like me? Nope.

The modern world is losing the concept of 'acquaintence', I think. Someone need not be an enemy, even if they aren't your friend. In nobler times you could argue with someone, utterly dispise them, and yet sit down and have a decent meal and enjoy whatever jabs were exchanged. People now, though, walk around like the world is an episode of Barney. Will I change my own behavior to suit it? Nope.

I think that anyone who can actually hate someone over what they read on a messageboard is, frankly, sick. If you ask for a list of people who dislike me, it will probably be long. Ask the same people if I would help them if they needed help; ask them if they haven't *seen* me be helpful to people they know I dislike.

If it sounds like I am tooting my own horn, I am. I believe in honesty and charity. If I think you are an ass, I won't keep the truth from you; I'll even volunteer it. If you need help, I shouldn't withold it, regardless of my feelings. If I slice you in an arguement, somewhere down the line I'll probably offer you a way to save face, or at least offer you a band-aid.

I suggest reading The Meditations of Marcus Aurelius. If not the whole thing, the first chapter. If you can't find that, read Polonius' advice to his son, Laertes, in the play Hamlet (Act 1 scene 3). Practical, non-religious wisdom that will keep you all your life.

If you are saying you're sorry, I'll take your word for it. If you're offering an apology, I don't accept it. Doesn't really change anything, does it? I still won't like you. If you need anything, let me know.

Again, best of luck to you.

Koasati, sorry to hear you lost a friend. You must feel really sad. I look over at my bed and see that my old friend is also on his way to the heavens. He's 21 years old (117 In Cat Years) and he's been by my side every minute through thick & thin. I like to remember a saying by Billy Graham - "If God is God then my beloved Black Lab will be the first to greet me when I enter Heavens Gate". That's a teary eyed choker. Old Crabs don't usually become so emotional.

My sympathies to OC and Koasati. I know how painful it is to lose a beloved pet.

And Bakerstreet, I like you. I enjoy reading your posts.

I find it hard to imagine the concept 'hating' a disembodied entity on a computor.
I do find it possible to 'like' the personalities that come across via the same medium.
Jam, you might take note of my OTB message, as for a 'bad day', my week has been a bummer.
Some neccessary surgery on Tuesday is making me feel like crap, but that's no excuse for dumping on anyone and everyone.
And I'll be over it in a few days so these things do pass.
c242, nasty condition but it's good to know you can get treatment.
Koasati, been there twice.
It is never easy, but one has to do what is best for them.
Mine were Beagles, the most lovable dogs (IMHO) I've ever known.

JamMeister, nice of you to apologise. It takes sometimes a lot of courage to do so.
But an apology means nothing when it's afterwards canceled by new insults.
So, the next time you're tempted to loose your temper on this public message board, remember it.

Yes, you can consider this a suttle warning.

Doreen..it was considered 'wise' to remove the 'problem' thread before it degenerated further...

Randy, sorry to hear about your loss. I rue the day I have to cope with my wife losing her cat...[of course, big, tough me won't even notice]....

Well, I saw the thread and didn't comment. I figured it would be useless. This wasn't JamMeister33's first time doing this and I knew after he sobered up or cooled down he would feel bad. But as a lot of people have noted, it's not the first time that Jam has blown up. I hope this will be the last time. This is a great site and the people will give you a lot of leaway and support if you don't alienate them. You don't have to agree with everything people say, but don't try and knife them. I don't like everyone on this site, but I don't dislike them. Some probably don't like me, I hope they don't dislike me thou. Oh well, I hope you get the picture. Subject change: I lost my dog after 12 years. Thought I lost a family member. Really shook me up. Still think about her to this day and it's been 14 years now.

I saw the thread... and only have one comment in the form of a quote.

"There is only one basic human right, the right to do as
you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human
duty, the duty to take the consequences."

Just chill and have some fun

Wombat - "I find it hard to imagine the concept 'hating' a disembodied entity on a computor." So do I. Psychologists say that normally in tense interactions, we get 30% of our meaning from the words said, and 70% from reading facial expressions. When the face is not present to moderate, we tend to put the worst possible interpretation on the words. Communication still seems to be a dangerous art!

BKB...hence the creation of 'smilies'...an attempt to put a 'facial expression' to the words.

Most of mine come with a or a , except if a comment is totally devoid of one then I'm thinking > , which translates as 'I am not amused'...
