A few beginner questions about WindowBlinds

Greetings all,
My first question concerns stability. I was about to download WindowBlinds but then I read some of the reviews and they brought up instantces of crashing, errors, and the like. So I came here to ask if this is true. Are there alot of problems that go along with WindowBlinds? I really don't want to spend the money on something that will cause my system to crash. WinXp does that enough on it's own.
If I downloaded the free version of it just to see if I like it, will I be able to download some of the outstanding themes that have been created here? Any problems with upgrading to the full version if I like the trial?
What about the wallpapers, do I need a program to use them? Or can I just download and use them as I would any others?
Once I get familiar with using all the different skinning programs, is there a tutorial online anywhere that helps out the newbie? I'm very familiar with PSP7, so I'm hoping I'll have little trouble skinning.
Any other suggestions would be great. Like any other programs I should get to help use/make skins.

Did XP come with your pc, or is it installed on an older pc? XP can quite often crash due to not being able to allocate motherboard resources its 'own way' with older boards. And very few boards of only a year ago have the correct bios for XP.
On a pc with XP pre-installed it should never crash...

I built my PC, so I opted out of XP because I heard that it wouldn't run very well. Windows 2000 works OK for me, for now.

I run XP with WindowBlinds on a PII 450Mhz..........steady as a rock

I bought my AMD Athlon 1.2GHz about a year and a half ago, came w/ME. I bought Window Blinds without even trying it first about a year ago. It worked pretty good, except for a few bugs (not everything would skin properly)...but I just chalked that up to the WinME thing. Recently I did a clean install of XP, and after a few hurdles, I'm very happy I made the switch...XP is definately more stable than ME (couldn't get any worse)...and ever since I reinstalled WB and updated it...it works great! As previously mentioned, I think your best bet would be to just get the Object Desktop package, which also includes Icon Packager. -mytwocents-

I was just mentioning the problems other people have had with xp and windowblinds. I've never had a problem cause I've never downloaded it yet. Thats why I cam here to get the truth straight from the pros.
As far as XP goes, it's got it's good points and it's bad ones. I still get a little anoyed with drivers not always working and such, but it is much more stable than most window OS's. However recently I've had problem with it freezing durin long gaming marathons. Usually about 6-8hrs into playin the system starts to fall apart on me. Though I'm beginning to chalk it up to my rig being a dell.
Anyway, it looks like I'll be getting Object Desktop soon. Looking forward to seing what I can create.

I have had Windowblinds since way back when and never had any trouble with it.
If your XP is crashing then something is wrong because XP is the stablest system I have used. Try turning off the GoBack. That feature is good on paper but in actuality slows the system and hogs a big portion of the hard drive.
The free Windowblinds is what I started out with and the only difference is it didn't skin the scrollbars. THat was a couple years ago so I don't know if anything has changed.
It is well worth the extra $ to get Object Desktop because of all the other different programs that come with it including WindowBlinds.
SkinStudio is part of OD. and that is good to put together skins.
