Is there a way to delete some of the comments on the skins without losing the download and rating information?

That would be ideal but there are only some comments that I would like to remove. Mostly the ones about my messing up the previews since I fixed them.

Admins can delete comments. But our policy is that we do not delete messages unless the comment contains profanity or is simply being abusive to other people.
If there is ever a comment that you feel is inappropriate let an admin know and they will make a descision on whether it justifies being deleted.

I have deleted comments in the past but they were things a hardened criminal might have blushed reading...

Well...unless another Admin has been through and removed something, I don't see any problems with what is there still....nothing that warrants removal.
You appeared to fall victim to the problem of naming every preview as 'preview.jpg' and having the database assign the same 'preview.jpg' to more than one skin, hence some confusion, but that's sorted.
Each individual skinner needs to name his/her own files and previews uniquely [to themselves], or the latter upload will overwrite the former.
I think that is just 'unique within the one skin section', so two Windowblind skin previews by the same skinner must have different names, but a winAMP and WB preview 'might' get away with it...[I haven't checked]...

Thanks for the help and for the toooo late heads up on naming previews. 
Is there any way that the authors can edit the comments on their skins. I know not now but a function be added.

Sally....no, it's not likely that that function would be added. Generally it has the potential to be abused/misused, or just unreasonably 'slant' all the comments to 'gee, great work'...
