2014 Grand Prix Season and My 30 Years
Friday, March 7, 2014 by Jafo | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk
Well....finally got our locations....
I'll be doing my 'thing' on Turn 8 left...
Terry's doing hers on 4 right...
and the 2 coming over from South Oz...one's at 16.4 left and the other's on 7 right.
It's gonna be a blast....new category of racing...V6 turbos.....
Back in the day we had 1500cc 4 cylinders with twin turbos rated at 1350 hp ...called detonator engines...cos the literally blew after qually...
...race tune saw 950+...
This time the specs are quite different....but you can bet your left proverbial that lap times will be broken.
This year will be my 30th consecutive International Formula One Australian Grand Prix ....and I'll be one of only a dozen or two who can lay claim to that. [and as Aussie Grands Prix goes...it's my 35th ...and only two or three can claim that one].
Can't wait....![]()

I'm the one in the sunnies...at the back.
That's our Comms briefing Saturday Morning

Today's Sunday....soon we'll see where the real talent is.
The 19 year old Ruskie did a brilliant job of getting into the top 10 in his first GP....
And Ricciardo is 10 places higher than Vettel.
Let's hope Hamilton doesn't have a dose of the over eagers and shunt Ricciardo off into the scenery on the first corner....![]()

Aw HELL yeah!!
A Dane on the podium for the first time, ever!
His dad gave it a try in the 95' season, 97 and 98 season, but never finished better than 7th.
Junior's going to give daddy a hard time next time they speak. ![]()
Way to go, MiniMag.
Congratulation to Ricciardo too, as the first Aussie on the podium in the Aussie GP.

Yes...race has been run and won. I'd guessed 11 finishers....and I think there were 14 ..... close enough....![]()
Not sure the results will stand...there were hearings in progress while we were at the post-race party.
Currently my feet are sore...as well as my legs...retreiving stones and tyre rubber etc from the track prior to the race.
I now have a commemorative engraved pen for thirty years....something to go 'straight to the pool room'.
Now the trick will be how to survive till 40 years.....at which stage I'll be 69...![]()

Yep. Ricciardo was disqualified because his engine had a too high fuel flow rate. ![]()
Thus MiniMag got promoted to 2nd place. He'd be pleased but certainly not happy about it.

Yep....I'd heard what was happening....just wasn't privvy to going all idiot-twitter about it. [it's prohibited].
Kinda odd though...re fuel flow levels....when the max rate allowed is supposed to be 100kg per hour....and the race went about an hour forty.... AND there was no inconsistently faster lap times for Ricciardo that would indicate something beyond the limits.
The science doesn't add up. I'll bet it's a flow-rate recording device that's screwed....![]()

It's now 30 years since my first International Australian Formula 1 GrandPrix....
....and here's me at it. [I'm the one on the right]...![]()

Blimey.... Had to take a closer look at that picture.
The guy on the left looks rather much like a certain late divine driver - Mr. Ayrton Senna. ![]()

Maybe a little...but with me were Ian and Cath McDonald.....long since divorced....haven't seen Ian in a decade or two. Cath's still around and a 35 year vet like me.
In my display case of 'junk' I still have one of those beer cans [Coopers with F1 graphics] ....unopened...![]()

Here's the 'official' 30 years Photograph....taken Saturday night on the straight.
I'm successfully not smiling...probably as the photographers took squillions of pics and I was alread knackered after day 3....
Behind me is National Clerk of Course...Henk Duncan...to his right [camera left] is the Clerk of Course...Tim Shenken...and to his right is Charlie Whiting.
The guy front-left is Mario...he's been the Ferarri Pit Marshal for every one of the 30 years....they always ask specifically for him [he speaks the lingo]....![]()

Qualifying has been run and won...Ricciardo is on the front row....and Vettel isn't....
I had a group photo session with the others who have done 30 years of F1 ....taken tonight on the front straight with Charlie Whiting and co.
I'm the only Comms who has done them all.
I'll upload a photo when it's accessible...
