Community Project
Thursday, February 13, 2014 by neone6 | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk
A thread to continue the community project, Working name BIOSPHERE-talk.
It looks Like I´m not the One to do the Blind afterall then due to what it seems to require & don´t have enough time I´ll withdraw my skin and graphics.
-I will release this skin At a later date as an individual upload with another name
Hopefully someone else with enough time on their hands can create a WindowBlindsskin for this project.
I did my best Thanks /Andrew

Yes, this is being rushed for no reason at all. This skin needs to have community input, and if that's not going to be taken into consideration, then this whole needs to be looked at again.

Sorry, but this is one blind I just won't be using. The very first mock-up appealed to me, but beyond that, I lost interest.
I do not care for the flowery look on the exterior of the start menu, or the pink ones on the inside either, for that matter. Besides, how would flowers be growing on the outside of the Biosphere?
Aren't those things built to provide an enclosed livable environment in a normally unlivable, hostile location? (No water, toxic gasses, no oxygen, etc.)
That being said, I think the quality of the work is excellent and I'd love to see something from Andy in the future along this line without the flora.
Carry on.

Hey Everyone,
The bottom line is both me and neone 6 need to put food on the table, period. I stopped skinning for this reason, as our only income nowdays is from clients
through airbrushing in Stockholm. We would have loved to continue with this community project by volunteering our time, but time is simply one thing we just dont have anymore.
A windowblind is ALOT of work, even for 1 style, let alone several substyles and minute changes always take time too.
We hope everyone understands this, and we dont get grief over trying to earn a living in real life.
best to all.
Kitty.

I think you lost the plot. Community Skins are a joint effort.
Again, taking Heavy Equipment as an example....one skinner provided publicly 'all' of the graphics and font styles, etc for everyone else to use in creating all the 50 plus skins for the suite.
The equivalent here could simply be neone6's style/layout/graphics of his start menu ..... people agree on font choices...and other 'bits' like min/max/close buttons, etc and everyone else [who wants to] makes use of those and styles the rest to suit.
I 'may' have the original graphics from HE somewhere...as was released as the basis for it.
I'll go hunt it down...![]()

Thanks to the many replies especially from jafo I know understand the total concept of a community project. I have been here since 2007 and was just use to someone making a skin for example around Christmas time and others making sub parts, docks, etc. What has been commented on is before my time but again I totally understand this concept now. I see where input on for example start buttons, min/max buttons and many other parts would be for a discussion and than decided on by the many comments.
Would like to thank Andrew and Kitty for all the time that they put into this. Maybe someone that has been here from the past can rejuvenate this back into a community project. There are so many of us that have never been part of what is required here and it would be a great learning experience. We could also comment and provide input. Hate to use these words as I'm an old guy myself. Maybe some of the old timers will come out and pick this thing back up. Looking forward to that.

The past is dead and gone, all is left to keep them alive is memories. We are dealing with today, and now nothing is going on....
Sorry to hear your done Neone, I'm looking forward to when you do finish it. It "looked" awesome. Thanks for even trying Neone and Kitty.
I don't try because I don't have the patience for such endevours. God Bless skinners. (and I'm atheist)

The blind was looking pretty good.
It was the lack of community feeling that was problematic. No room for that in a community project.

Thinking to the community project "Biosphere" .... a wallpaper and still exploring others... What do you guys think?

Reply #138 Tuesday, February 18, 2014 1:20 PM
although it seems to look like the sphere is not a sphere (not round, i.e. cross section is 51 pixels x 40 pixels), it's, as usual, well done.
Hey Andy, I do hope you finish that blind, it's pretty kick ass.
I do have to side with a majority of responders though. I would vote for start menu #1. The brightness of the flowers detracts from the overall flow of the menu.

Great memories, indeed. Watching this great project grow was a real joy and honor.
I'm sure the ones that are still around are happy to hear off your appreciation for their hard work over the years......

-I´m not rushing, believe me ! This type of Blind can´t be rushed, however I´m trying to work at a good pace as I thought people wanted it as soon as possible.
I get the chance to say 'you're probably too young to remember the first 'community skins'' .... but the process was a fairly long-term project where dozens of skinners joined in. There was/is never a particular 'need' for just one person to do 'all' of a Windowblind [for example]...if more variations were needed others could just grab whatever graphics were organized to date and create their own additional ones....with everyone keeping an eye on whether the various versions suited the theme....continuity-wise.
Simple example....the Heavy Equipment theme/suite/Community Skin had 2 Litestep themes .... one by Dmer and one by me.
Other 'components' had duplicates/versions from the ideas of separate skinners....
No reason that can't be done here too...
