is there a way in WB?
Thursday, January 16, 2014 by decibelle | Discussion: WindowBlinds
I'm getting a bit frustrated with WindowBlinds. I had hoped to be able to more than just superficially modify the Aero theme (see my post here: https://forums.wincustomize.com/editpost/451374). It's kind of discouraging to have received no answers! Changing the main color without being able to change the other colors (that dreadful light blue and that ubiquitous gray) is not particularly appealing. But building a skin entirely from scratch is not on my agenda at this point. What I really want to do is play around with colors, textures and fonts. Is there any way to accomplish this intermediate sort of modification – if not directly with the program, then with the registry or other hacks?
Thanks, Ellen

I have SkinStudio. It doesn't offer any clear way to do what I described here: https://forums.wincustomize.com/451374 .

Sorry Ellen, but you cannot edit Aero with SkinStudio. You would need to create your own skin entirely based on what you want.

Thanks for clarifying that. Does anyone know what system file contains that particular information, so that I could perhaps access it with ResHacker? As far as I can tell, it is not in aero.msstyles.

Are you sure? Where would that be exactly? It's not under Bitmap.

Finding assistance here at WC on hacking your OS is like finding a Bears fan at a Packers game. Sure, they exist, but they probably won't advertise the fact.
You might try the forums at dA, home court for hacks.

Yet,as other members have said, here is not encourage to hack/damage your system files. Reading your demands on the other thread, deviantArt does has some "alternative" Aero themes that may suit.

I've looked at shellstyle.dll and shellstyle.dll.mui and can't find the element I'm looking for.
All I want to do is a minor hack, and then apply WindowBlinds. I back everything up several times over, so I'm not worried.

Using ResHacker for OS customization is the hardcore way of skinning. Only the best get a good result.
And the best, imo, was WinT. (He no longer dabbles in OS customization)
Here's just one example of his skills:
