Request for hints on fine-tuning

Greetings from North London!
This is all pretty new to me. I haven't tried any skinning or art myself yet--I've just been enjoying the great work available here, especially in the Windowblinds area. I spend most of the day staring at my computer screen (I'm a freelance writer) and sometimes switching Windowblinds and wallpaper saves my sanity. Since I work strictly with words and have very little graphic expertise, I'm constantly amazed by the fascinating designs and images I find here. In fact, one of the things I want to do when I finish the book I'm working on is take enough time to browse through all of the wallpapers.
My only problem--and this is my problem, not a complaint--is that many of the beautiful WindowBlinds designs have dark-coloured windows. The dark colours fit the total designs, but for me, it's a problem. My eyesight has never been great and recently, it's begun to deteriorate even more. When it comes to reading text, black (or very, very dark) print on a white (or very, very light) background is the only scheme that works for me. I've tried over-riding the WindowBlinds colour scheme in my word processor (Word for Windows 2000, in use with XP Professional OS), but I can't get the background to change colour unless I set the view on "Web"--which is awful to look at when I'm working.
Can someone tell me how to change the window colours to white background and black print in WindowBlinds *just for me*. I've tried using the over-ride in the WindowBlinds program but for some reason, I can't get it to work. I tried checking the "force colours" box, and then discovered I was forcing the wrong colours--the windows didn't change, the frames did.
I realize I must sound rather, uh, dumb about this; I have to admit that most software mystifies me and it takes me a while to learn. But if anyone has the patience to help me out, I'd really appreciate it. I'll even send you a free book as a thank you.

Do a search for file name *.uis or go to the subdirectory for your Windowblinds. Open the .uis file with notepad. Scroll down till you find the section [Colors]. There are 2 settings you want to change the numbers on:
Window=255 255 255
WindowText=0 0 0
This will make the window white and the text black. It will stay when you re-boot the computer.

If you have skinstudio you can adjust the colors in the colors section of the tree.
There are many skins that are easy on the eyes. You might find that white back and black text is not always the easiest to read.
I found that the skin Lt Blue by Alexandria (if I spelled that right) is very easy on the eyes.
