Sit, watch, pay my way.

Monday, November 4, 2002 by UBoB | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

It seems that lately, every new skin I make sucks. Obviously, I'm not very inspired anymore. Right now, I have 4 WB skins sitting on my hard drive but the more I look at them, the more I hate them. (Familiarity breeds contempt! ).

I think, for the time being, I'm just going to sit, watch and pay my WC fees and purchase my SD products. (It's a deeply rooted but relatively safe addiction )

I've also enrolled in some courses at our local college to enhance my PhotoPaint and PhotoShop skills. I think part of my problem is that I can't create in PP or PS what I can imagine in my head.

This is not goodbye, by any means. It is more a case of "I'll be back when I have something substantial to contribute".

(Keep in mind, I'll be checking in often, ready to pounce on "the usual suspects" in the messageboard threads. )

motion....it's a common complaint....getting a bit jaded with creativity....but a nod is as good as a wink to a blind horse, and a holiday can be good for the creative urges...

I think that's the root of the problem. I had hoped that my recent excursion to the US West Coast would get me over the creativity hurdle but I still find myself sitting down to start a new skin and just drawing a blank.

Now I'm hoping the college courses will stimulate the old brain juices....get them flowing again.

But, no matter what, I'll still be here, checking out the new submissions by many of my favorite authors.

Whenever I need inspiration I just hop around the net looking at as many different sites as I can. Mainly graphics sites of course, but I always come back with a new idea that I want to try.
Worth a shot!

I've tried that BoXXi, and I've had a couple of good ideas. The problem comes when I try to produce the idea on my monitor. That's where the college courses in PP and PS come in. Online tutorials don't do it for me. So, I'm hoping the courses will improve my skills enough that I can turn the ideas into actual skins.

Maybe we can have specialty teams, like in football (American football that is). People like myself, Frogboy, Koasati can start the skins and then another team can come in to finish them.

Motion? Maybe something you could do while you are waiting for inspiration is update Rustic, or Liniation, or Olivaceous, or Selene, or Deco Wood. It would be good practice with the new stuff and (for me, anyway) there is nothing like polishing old work to bring new inspiration.

Especially Rustic.....

I'm open to the idea of updating all my old skins to work with WB 3.4+, maybe even improve the bitmaps. And, your right GM, it would probably bring new inspiration, but I'd probably only be sending the results on to you (via email), unless I thought that the revisions were exceptionally good.

I say we all pitch in and buy motion a round trip ticket to brazil, where he can sit with treetog and be inspired......"when you can snatch the mouse from my hand...you will be ready, wallhopper"

motion...it's all in your head....your creations inspire the rest of us as do those of the geniuses who also selflessly submit their soul here. If you need a break, then by all means take one! We will patiently look forward to the wonderful creations you give us. I'm positive I would download and use those 'contemptuous' skins you have sitting on your hard drive....

Warmest regards,
Peff

Updating older skins has really helped me get back on the ball. It helps me to just start doing something with skins when you get in a funk like that. I've been in one for 3 months now and am just now coming out of it (I think ).
