WindowBlinds trial not complete?
Sunday, December 29, 2013 by decibelle | Discussion: WindowBlinds
I'm new to all this; I installed the trial version of WindowBlinds, and I was a bit surprised and disappointed to see that it didn't allow for much creativity. Unless I'm missing something, it seems to put a up pre-made frame that is only partly modifiable around your basic Windows 7 (in my case) theme, which clashes retains all that pastel blue stuff and clashes pretty badly. I've been doing a little reading on this website, but I'm still a little confused. Is the essential part – SkinStudio – not available with the trial version? Also, when I did a search on SkinStudio, it seems to be available as a download (I assume a trial version) on various sites, but not from Stardock. I wanted to try out the full program. Can anyone give me any advice?
Thanks,
Ellen

go here: https://www.stardock.com/
When you open the trial version of WB are there not any skins that can be selected. You should also be able to download skins from the WinCustomize site (majority are free) and they usually self install unless in a zip. (or save - double click)
You need skin studio to customize your own.

So is it possible to trial SkinStudio? Is it even possible to buy it?? I don't see it anywhere on Stardock's site. Where do you get it?

No. It is part of WindowBlinds (purchased) version https://www.stardock.com/products/windowblinds/download.asp
Design your own skins with SkinStudio (separate download included with purchase)

SkinStudio is not essential part for Windowblinds to render rightly on your machine;it's simply a tool that helps you making a skin/theme which Windowblinds needs/applies.

I see the free version at softpedia.
Also, I used a free version for a year, then purchased a pro version which is way nicer and was available separately. 9.95

DT, I don't think that Softpedia version of Skin Studio is compatible with the latest version of WB.
Also, not sure the softpedia download is legit, not saying it isn't, just not sure.
I think Reply #4 is the correct answer.

The version of SkinStudio you get when you purchase WindowBlinds is the fully enabled version. There isn't a "free version" available as there was years ago.

the first download option (External Mirror) is a link to this file:
https://stardock.cachefly.net/SkinStudio7_free.exe
should be legit enough.

i don't really care what i should use or not, as i have no intention to use any version of SkinStudio.
Softpedia links directly to Stardock (or to be more precise to the content distribution system Stardock is customer of). i am sure Stardock is fully aware that not only Softpaedia, but probably most software sites that have an entry for SkinStudio, link to that version. after all there is no newer version and 404 would likely be worse for their business than a working link for an older version.
that the link is there is just a fact.

I sit corrected, but as the softpedia version is no longer compatible, it should be ignored/removed from softpedia and from stardock.

Quoting moshi, reply 15after all there is no newer version
Of course there is a newer version, what do you mean? you get it when you buy WindowBlinds like Island Dog said.
there is no newer version that Stardock (right now) intends to be donloaded from third-party sites. the old version is there, Stardock did not remove it from the server. if hearing about that makes you angry for some reason (might be the language barrier, but i seems to be the case for me), i suggest a glass of tea, a cigarette or whatever helps you to calm down. ![]()

When I bought WindowBlinds I was offered to buy SkinStudio separately.
