Server is busy?

Wednesday, October 30, 2002 by mfqueenb | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

I have been trying to download some windowblind themes but I can't because the server is always busy. Why is that? It has never happen before.

You notice that the trolls complaining about not being able to connect are never subscribers. "Give me more free stuff and do it faster, you incompetent!"

Love it.

I wonder if he'll actually prove us wrong by developing a program that just annihilates WindowBlinds. I hope he's not simply one of those people who like to talk big, but have no use whatsoever.

normally you can avoid the server busy message by using a tool like flashget for downloading... it usually works

I was going to purchase the registered version of OjectDesktop, but are the things that malakai is saying true? What does he mean they are trying be an OS? Themes don't work also? besides a few bugs, I think everything about Object Desktop rocks!! Now i'm getting more and more into it and and its exciting me more and more. I think not only is it great for modifying your desktop, but it's really fun too. A few friends of mine came over and were gonna use my PC, but had no clue what to do and where to start, especially with NextStart loaded. hehe
Oh well, I'm now gonna purchase OD. Can anyone tell me what exactly comes with it?

Naw,,folks like Malki show up around here every now and then. They are clueless.OD is one of the most fun, interactive things you can do for your machine and you.Everything is new again as many times as you pleaze.Be sure to get the WC Browser and subscription for a backstage pass to the best show in town.

Basically here's the way it works:

Most popular sites run into the same issue -- more visitors than the site can handle. I know of one popular Theme site that is essentially down most of the time for everyone because it can't handle so many connections. (in fact, I just checked and it's down right now "failed, too many connections").

At WinCustomize, we could have that same problem. But we don't. Why? Because when we start to near the maximum connection load the site simply picks and chooses who it's going to let in.

Rather than no one being able to connect, it gives priority to 1) WinCustomize subscribers then 2) SD customers and then 3) People who have at least created accounts and then 4) Everyone else.

I'd much prefer a system where those who contribute can ALWAYS 24/7, 365 days per year get to the site and have a reasonable surfing experience than a system where it's down a significant portion of the time due to being overwhelmed with traffic.

According to Alexa, WinCustomize is the world's most popular customization site. Someone has to pay for that bandwidth, servers, etc.

And hey, if the software is so terrible then problem solved, no need to download skins and themes and icons for "terrible software".

Well said Frogboy.

Just remember, the more people get a WC subscription, the more servers and stuff WC can afford, which equals better access. You get what you pay for.

Like most things, if it's free you have to be happy with what you get. If you don't get much, you know what to do about it...

Thanks Frogboy. FWIW, I've never seen the server busy and I doubt other SB subscribers have either.

Like Fuzzy says, you get what you pay for.

Mostly what I see are ASP errors while uploading.
