OK - it sounds interesting but I'm not sure if I should uninstall Stardock Central and then install the Object Desktop Manager.

One of my issues with Stardock has been they aren't always clear regarding the use of one program over another.  Sometimes they issue programs that appear to do the same thing (for example Theme Manager and My Colors) and then discontinue one without indicating the compatibility issues between the products.  I'm afraid to remove SDC for ODM and then not be notified about programs that are NOT part of Object Desktop (like ObjectDock and CursorFX) that I also own.

It would be helpful if Stardock would occasionally put out a list of what programs are part of Object Desktop, which ones have been discontinued and what programs are standalone and not included with the OD subscription.  I've been an subscriber of OD since the OS/2 days and I get confused.

CursorFX and ObjectDock have never been a part of Object Desktop, and I don't believe that will change.  If it ever does they would obviously be added to the supported apps.

I installed Deskscapes on my laptop because of a Dream by Amitsaran called Uranus. It is so cool but it pushed my cpu way up there, 70%. No biggie as I let it run for a bit then changed it to one that came with Deskscapes, cpu dropped back down to less that 8%. Normal for me. Anyway I did uninstall SDC and noticed ODM listed all of my installed programs just like SDC plus the ones available and the GUI is much nicer looking. To say I'm impressed would be putting it mildly. IMO...ODM is what Theme Manager was supposed to be and it works so a big   to the devs at Stardock. You guys rock!

Really though, it's legacy stuff, so I'm not surprised.

Nevertheless, before prompting me to uninstall SDC  there should have been a a warning that it only is good for Obeject Desktop apps. I find no use in it this way.

Carl, I installed SDC after installing ODM, and all is well.   I can use SDC for the rest, until hopefully, Stardock adds the other stuff to ODM, maybe as a setting?

Rather than Hide Software, there could be a Show Other Software setting, for those who want it. No sense in having to use ODM and SDC.

But if the intention is to have an "everything-manager" ODM becomes what SDC already is...

The only way this would make sense (to me) would be if all OD-suite applications was removed from SDC leaving only ODM available for download to subscribers. And when you install ODM the license for the *complete* suite is locked to the computer where it is installed rather than just one license for the particular app being installed. It would make it easier to get an overview of purchased licenses if you have several licenses of subscriptions and/or individual apps.

Something which would be very helpful too would be to add a something in SDC which displays how many installations of software is in use or available, and also a requirement for login credentials to install software from SDC (to prevent unauthorized people from installing additional software from someone-elses stardock account, scenario: I buy OD-suite for my grandfathers laptop, instead of having to register a full account for granddad I just install SDC, use up an appropriate license from my account, and then install ODM. Now granddad gets to play with ODM, but if he tries to run SDC to install some other of my licensed programs he'll get a request for credentials).

Geesh, this got long... Not sure if I'm coherent here. If I'm wrong about the intentions of Stardock, I don't mind if they rip off ideas from here should they like them. Free advise, but if something which is my idea brings in huge wads of cash I don't mind one or more free subscription extensions though

As much I really appreciate people always finding workarrounds (no sarcasm/irony here !) I would appreciate not needing any at all for simple tasks.
