Corrupted files and previews.

I am having problems with corrupted zip files AND preview images! I think it is something to do with my new broadband connection as all the files are intact on my system, so they must be getting corrupted during transfer. I have removed any possible magnetic sources away from my PC, (speakers etc.) so it must be something to do with a dirty connection or phone line.
I have removed my newest uploads that I did yesterday until it's fixed. If you downloaded any of my new stuff and it doesn't work, please accept my apologies.
If any of you have experienced this problem, I sure could use some advice!

BoXXi.Keep an eye on that USB connection.What brand of device/modem are you using??Isn't it a combo cable/modem box??If you have any way of trying a different connection i.e. card or ethernet you might try that.Your cable company should be able to see your modem and potential problems with lines or hook-ups.I have a Westel DSL modem I am not using.Let me know if you would like to try it.

Thanks Brazil, yes it is a combo cable/modem. I don't have any other way of testing it, and I can't accept your kind offer as the cable company insist that I use theirs. Besides, I am in the U.K., where are you?
Do you know if the length of the cable between the modem and the PC has any effect? Because my cable is about 20 metres long, and runs right around the room!
I really need to sort this out, I have tons of new stuff to upload.

BoXXi,Yes the length of a USB cable could very well be your trouble.Can your cable company look at your modem from thier veiw-point and tell you if they see any noise or interference in your line??I am in Arkansas,USA and no amount of money or distance should keep your art out of circulation.For me,you are one of the best and I feel like we must get you sorted.Is your machine a late model??Can it handle high speed data transfer?If the cable you are refering to,running around your room,is a USB cable I think that might be it.Your cable company should be able to help a bit.I have tried to set up some home networks with the USB and have had lots of trouble.Thats the reason I am asking if you have any other way to get the broadband to your machine.You might try routing your modem all over your home with a Home Portal.Mine is made by 2wire.I have high speed internet thru my whole house thru the phone line.this option would enable you to plug in anywhere a phone line is with a HPNA phone line adapter thus eliminating the long USB cable run.Please keep us posted cause we really like what you do.I'm sure if we keep bumping this to the top a broadband guru will get you up if we can't.

My system is only a few weeks old, and it's a top of the range Dell system with a 2.5Ghz P4 chip. the problem is, I know nothing about broadband, I could fix the old 56k modem with no probs,but this is different.
I could move my PC nearer to the modem/cable box, but I would still have the same amount of cable!. Could the cable company give me a shorter cable, or is it something I could buy?
Unfortunately, the Home Portal is not an option for me, I have no use for it, I just sit in my little corner all day staring at skinstudio and photoshop, and no-one else really uses the computer but me.

Yes,USB cables come in many lengths.I am assuming this is what kind of cable you are using.Did your cable company come to your house to help you set this modem/tv-converter box up??Mine,Comcast,will come back as many times as it takes to get you on the highway.Will yours help you in this way??Is this the same computer you were using with your dial-up modem?If so there may be some settings that are still set to dial-up instead of LAN.As far as the understanding why your stuff,uploaded,is bad and other peoples suff,downloaded,seems fine probably has to do with your uploads going much slower and being pushed thru a USB cable too far.Have you noticed download speed increase since new modem?If so how fast?What does your cable co say your uploads speeds are??There are many tweaks and lots of info on Broadband at www.DSLreports.com.It has helped me lots.If we can't fix this with a shorter run to your computer with a shorter USB cable have them come fix you up.Also go to www.pcpitstop.com and run the download and upload test and tell us what you got.

I'll run the tests now. I have noticed that where the cable goes into the USB adapter, its not tight, and it can move around, and can be pulled out without pressing the little release tab. That can't be right can it?

if i'm not mistaken, isn't any usb line over something like...9 feet or so...a bad idea, in general?

The typical USB plug-in is usually not very tight.Lets try to focus on a shorter run to your modem and maybe call your cable co and tell them it must work.Is there any cable modem providers instead of DSL for you?Thats the reason I have a spare DSL modem.I did not like DSL at all.Cable modem smokes it like shawgg.

Kinrik,you are correct.USB becomes unstable in 5 to 7 feet for high speed data transfer.Uploads for sure will suffer.

I'm back! I ran 3 tests, download speed, upload speed and the ping test.
RESULTS:
Download speed: 621Kbs
Upload speed: 68Kbs
Ping test: pretty much average, but a little on the slow side.
Do any of these numbers mean anything to you Brazil?

upload speed is not good.download speed is about all DSL is gonna do for you.I am betting your problem is in the long cable.Are the settings that you use to upload your work still set for dial-up by chance??

I don't think so, there was an install disk that came with the system, I ran that and assumed it would make any required changes. Do I look in Dial up Properties?

BoXXi,From the soundz of things,I think you need a shorter run from modem to machine.And call cable co and tell them your situation.That is, you got some clients in America that need your work and it must be fixed as soon as possible.From IE go to file then tools then internet options,then connection just to have a look-see.

Are you using a Stardock related program to upload??If so be sure to check the settings there as well.I dunno B,I feel your frustration though,supposed to get a better connection and wind up with problems ya didn't have before.Your cable co should help you fix this.

Bryan....it's up to your cable guys to provide you with a properly functioning service.
You're paying them for one, they are obliged to deliver it.
Tell them what brazil said....'clients in the US need your work urgently', and suggest you may need to sue for compensation if the problem isn't sorted promptly...
