Help me PLEASE!!!!!

Hi Again,
This is driving me CRAZY!
I have been trying to create a cursor, a picture of a gun, you know james bond theme thing. I am Bond crazy. Ok so i found the pic on the web saved it in paint and now every time i try to use it the white back-round is still there! Please help me, i have been at this for days. UGH trust me i am trying to learn but i am ready to throw my PC! How do i make this pictures back-round transparent???? I have paint and ms photo and dell studio if this helps at all i doubt it. Before i had no Problems like this because i had Adobe Photo, which was great UGH i wish it worked for my windowsXP but i am not that lucky. Thanks for the help.
PS Maybe someone out there will just make one for me EH?

There are free programs you can use to create icons and cursors.
I recommend Microangelo http://download.com.com/3000-2195-10158373.html?tag=lst-0-2 or Iconforge http://download.com.com/3000-2195-10128559.html?tag=lst-0-3 , but there are shareware and you'll have to buy it if you want to keep it. You ca always use BMPTOICO http://download.com.com/3000-2192-1567169.html?tag=lst-0-6 if you already have a BMP that you want to convert into an icon or a cursor.
