how a person can registar a domain name and then have the users have there username before the domain name like deviant art does?
ex
http: //username.deviantart.com
how does that work? how do you pay for it?

That's called a subdomain. You don't pay extra for that, once you own the main domain, your host just has to set up DNS records to point to those subdomains. I'm not sure how deviantART does it on the fly like that. Theirs are set up the moment that you register.

ok... I guess I should ask this question here instead of making another post, has any one tried to make a VB game in desktop X? I am trying to make a desktopX theme for space invaders and I am wondering if any one else has tried to make a VB game for the scripts in DesktopX.

Subdomain (If You are an OD subscriber): SmartIP in Object Desktop has this functionality, too. You then have YourName.stardock.net. AFAIK it sends Your updated online-IP to the stardock DNS-records automatically.

I would assume that deviantart does their own DNS at this point, in order to coordinate all that hardware. If you didn't mind a situation like "whatever.com/~whoever" you can set that up yourself in Apache. Apache is what I use, so I dunno about any of the others.

I think username.whatever.com is far better than whatever.com/username
thats why I wanted to find out how it is done. if all it takes is to let you host know that you want this to point to your address then its cool. don't think I can set it up the way deviant art has it (or need to for that matter) Just would like to provide somethinf like that for a user.
