Some of the original ingredients in Coca-Cola include the Kola nut and coca leaves. One reason for its initial popularity was because it actually contained traces of cocaine. People just kept wanting more...

And up until the late 1960's Coca Cola as well as mixers such as tonic water contained traces of Codeine.

For those that don't realize, Codeine, also called methylmorphine, is a naturally occurring alkaloid of opium.

So, when I drank Coke as a kid I was getting trace elements of Codeine.

I guess that the real reason it became known as soda "pop". The "pop" was short for "poppy".

One study found that if you take a large caged population of rats and supply a variety of drinking bottles, some water and some with alcohol, the rats develop similar drinking patterns as humans. That is some rats will not drink alcohol at all, some drink only in groups, some drink alcohol exclusively and to their detriment. And some are sad solitary drinkers. If rats are caged with only drinking water for most of the day, and then you establish a pattern of introducing alcohol at the exact same time each day, the drinking rats will gather in anticipation some time before as if they are expecting happy hour.

Also, elephants have been known to march great distances to the mango tree. They seem to time their migration to the time that the fruit is fallen and fermented to some extent. They will eat the fruit, and display signs of inhebriation... some are aggressive, others wobble. After they spend some time recovering....

My sister sent me this and I couldn't think of a better place to post it

The doctor instructed him to go home, get a cherry bomb
(fireworks are legal in Alabama), light it, put it in a beer can,
then hold the can up to his ear and count to 10. The Alabamian
said to the doctor, "I may not be the smartest man, but I don't
see how putting a cherry bomb in a beer can next to my ear is
going to help me -- I don't want to go deaf!"

So, the couple drove to Georgia to get a second opinion. The
Georgia physician was just about to tell them about the procedure
for a vasectomy when he noticed that they were from Alabama. This
doctor instead told the man to go home and get a cherry bomb,
light it, place it in a beer can, hold it to his ear and count to
10.

Figuring that both learned physicians couldn't be wrong, the man
went home, lit a cherry bomb and put it in a beer can. He held
the can up to his ear and began to count, "1, 2, 3, 4, 5...", at
which point he paused, placed the beer can between his legs and
resumed counting on his other hand...

weel that sucked the first paragraph didn't paste! well here it is anyway

After having their 11th child, an Alabama couple decided that was
enough (they could not afford a larger double wide) So, the
husband went to his doctor (who also treated mules) and told him
that he and his wife/cousin didn't want to have any more
children. The doctor told him that there was a procedure called a
vasectomy that could fix the problem.

Back to palindromes:

Some of my favorites:

A man A Plan A canal Panama

An odd permutation of the above"

A man, a plan, a cat, a ham, a yak, a yam, a hat, a canal--Panama

Since "racecar" started all this:

A Toyota Race fast, safe car. A Toyota.

Another Good one:

Are we not drawn onward, we few, drawn onward to new era?

And finally, for the want of a "b"...

Drat Saddam, a mad dastard

Not a palindrome, but an interesting anagram...
Rearrange the letters in Adolf Hitler and you get --wait for it-- Heil Old Fart!
