I use either Mozilla 1.1 or Netscape 7 for all of my browsing needs, but that might soon change. Phoenix, in only it's .1 milestone really does a great job, and it feels *fast*! Check it out:

I'll say this for it, it sure is fast! Hmmm, I wonder if this will end up being Netscape 8 or 9...
As for you geekboy, shame on you for using that corporate AOL, thing, lol. While I have it myself, I proudly only use it when testing web sites for browser compatability. *so says the anti-AOL snob*

If this is version .1 I can't imagine verison 1.0 It's excelent already..

Actually, Jobeleca, I've been using either Mozilla or Netscape 7.0 as my default browser for a long time. I figure that only something with Netscape's name on it actually qualifies as a "coporate AOL thing". I probably shouldn't admit to having an AOL screen name tucked away, but like you, I only use it for testing. Well, that and the fact that every time I call to cancel, they give me more months free to keep "evaluating" it. 
Anyway, I really don't think Phoenix will be the future of Netscape, because I'm pretty sure Netscape wants to integrate mail/AIM and ads. By the time Netscape would finish with Phoenix, it would *be* Netscape. Whatever it's future though, I love Phoenix already!

Alright, I'll be honest... My primary browser is Mozilla, it's enough for me that it's open source, even if it is heavily sponsored by a corporation, it sure doesn't hurt that it's a pretty damn good browser. While I also confess to having an AIM account, I proudly use Trillian to use it (along with IRC, ICQ, YIM, and MIM). I figure that I'm getting the benefits of those services without having their software on my computer. Yes, Trillian is a company, but it's not an AOL company.
Sadly, I got suckered into getting CompuServe when buying a computer in '99. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! I actually rank this as one of the biggest mistakes I've ever made and the program and extremely poor connection and service provided have pointedly reminded me of this mistake every day. Thank GOD I have only a few months left on the contract. I won't keep it even if they offer it to me free in the future.

Actually, that might actually be a good business idea for them. That way they would either get ad revenue or people paying not to see the ads.

Jobeleca, when I was using dial-up, I moved over to Walmart-Connect at one point. It uses the AOL network for connectivity, which actually isn't half bad, gives you unlimited access, 7 screen names, and the last I checked it was still $9.94/month. Better still, you can access the screen name's e-mail via IMAP (as you can with CompuServe). For anyone that needs cheap (and yes, it is reliable) dial-up access, it's hard to beat. Oh, what's different about it? There's not much in the way of proprietary content via the actual WalMart Connect client. But - who cares? Minimize it, and go about your business.

1Renegade: It's *such* a nice browser, that I think I may revert to using Agent or Xnews again for usenet (I always did for binaries anyway), The Bat for e-mail, and stick with Phoenix as my browser. I can't wait to see this baby evolve!

This "beta" is faster than IE6 (so far anyway, which is approximately 15 minutes). I'll definately be using this one from now on.

Sailfish, the mega talented guy who re-released the SkyPilot theme for Mozilla/Netscape, has already indicated that he *might* consider looking into doing SkyPilot for Phoenix. He's got to enjoy torturing himself to start working on themes for a .1 milestone, but he's a helluva guy. It'll be great if he cranks that out for Phoenix!

The only problem I've found with it (so far) is with the favourites, how it dosen't arrange them with the folders first, then files, it puts them in alphabetical order. And it is kind of slow scrolling down through them.
Of course, I've never used any browser besides IE (with the exception of netscape, which I used at my old school) and I've gotten used to having the folders first, and files second in the favourites menu.
But that dosen't really matter since you can change it yourself (unlike in IE), so it's not a big problem.
