How can you open long threads to earlier messages?

Wednesday, September 11, 2002 by goodmorphing | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

I tried to edit my account every way that made sense. I tried to alter the count in the address (I got random unnamed messages in an interesting sequence... would make a good story, maybe).

I recall there being a "view all messages" option at the bottom of the Marathon thread. Not sure it is is still there and if all long threads have that.

following on from some experiments with using IE to browse the message board, this is controled by the URL you use on a thread.

eg, the URL for this thread currently ends:

msgboard.asp?id=61975#61990

61975 - this seems to be the tread number

#61990 - this "command" seems to be the last post i read, so jump to that one.

however, there are other commands you can pass

try:
msgboard.asp?id=61975&MaxReplies=100

leave the thread id alone, and this gets the last 100 posts. however, if the thread has less posts than you asked for, it doesnt seem to work so well

for those of you with fast connections, try:

msgboard.asp?id=61975&cmd=showall

this shows the entire thread

for the brave, try that on the marathon thread!

What did our server ever do to you? Is that really the way to repay the hard work it has been giving you over the last year and a half? It doesn't have 9 lives like you do!

actually this is a plan to raise the awareness of the stirling work T-Man has been doing!

this lets people get a feel for what it was like building up to post 1000, when we had to reload the entire thread every post!

feline wonders if this is working
