Plugin Option on DesktopX Objects

How come the only time I see the choice of Plugin on the Appearance tab of an Object is when I clone it from an existing one. Any new object I make just has the choices of Image and Text.
Any help/hints would be appreciated.

I found some more info on this in the newsgroups. Seems like new versions come out so fast the documentation lags a bit behind.
